How do I keep Flea/Tick Meds on? Hi, I was curious about how to keep a puppy well shampooed (one bath a week), and assure that the flea/tick meds arent coming off. I was told oatmeal shampoo will keep it on. Frontline Plus says that it is water proof. Does anyone know if this is shampoo proof as well? Also, my vet told me about a heart worm medicine that can protect my little one from ticks and fleas from the inside out as well as protect against heart worm. Has anyone tried these and do they work? lately it just seems my pup keeps scratching herself. Maybe I am just paranoid but, I saw a bite or two on her today during her bath and i pulled a little bug off of her but, havent seen anything else. Can anyone help? Thank you! I wish I could help. I have the same problem with fleas and ticks and my animals are treated with product and bathed and the yard and house is sprayed but alas we still have a problem. Good luck in the battle against the pests. |
How long after application are you bathing them. And when You apply are you getting it down to the skin and not on top of the fur. I know how difficult it is to do with those wiggly little guys and their fine hair. Frontline is a good product, I've had excellent success with it. I've used heartworm pills for worms other than heartworm, but have never heard of it for fleas and ticks. Please be careful not to use too many chemicals. It could make them seriously ill. If the problem continues I think I'd see the vet. |
My daughter frontlines her 2 goldens and never has a problem with it coming off. She brings them to the lake swimming and gives them baths...it still seems to work. as for the heartworm for fleas and ticks? I've never heard this...but, then again, never asked either...that would be a nice thing though. |
thank you! i will try! hopefully i can just keep her bathed with this flea/tick shampoo which keeps them off for 10 daysish. and i bought some different flea/tick meds. i am going to switch from k9advantix to frontlineplus. any idea about those? |

so you had been using K( Advantix, and are thinking of switching? Is that correct. My vet told me that he had numerous complaints on the Advantix not doing the job. He suggested Frontline and I've never had a problem. So if the Advantix is what you have been using then I wsould switch, but please be careful not to over do it. wait as full 30 days before reapplying. IMO it woul be better to have fleas for a while than to use too much pesticide. |
Frontline is absorbed into the the skin and secreted by the oil glands so it doesn't wash off. Advantage is topical and claims to be water resistant. We sell both where I work and lots of people that try advantage switch to frontline because it seems to work longer. Frontline also kills ticks and advantage doesn't. So if you are washing your dog often as most of us do with yorkies, I would use frontline. |
they make a frontline spray you could use as needed also a pill called capstar that kills fleas within hours and it it works! |
thank you everone! i just bought some frontline and will start using that all night. i also sprayed my room hoping to get rid of anything that may be around! |
