Cottage Cheese Our breeder had been giving Angus cottage cheese. I've read many threads on here that others say it is good for them. I'm just wondering how much I should give him (he loves it!) and how do I adjust the amount of his dry food? He is 10 weeks old. Thanks! |
Well... I sometimes use cottage cheese for my smaller puppies that have trouble adjusting to puppy food. It is an excellent source of calcium and protein and helps to keep their blood sugars in sync. Since your puppy is already used to having it in his diet, I would recommend letting him have a tablespoon each time you feed him until he is 12 weeks old and then gradually decreasing it until there is none. Good Luck, Teri:animal-pa PS..I also give it to moms with large litters. |
Very small amount (one tea spoon). Your pup may get diarrhea if it is too much. |
Wow, I'm so glad I asked. I did way too much the last two days. Thank you! |
How about for older dogs? I give Rosie about 2 tablespoons every now and then. It doesn't seem to bother her. Also, I have gotten lite and fat free before. Is that bad for them? |
I'm so glad I read this thread because I give Piccolo one tablespoon EVERY day to mix it with Missink Link. Is it too much ? |
My vet said to give my new little Yorkie cottage cheese before he went to bed at night. He said it has a lot of protein and would stick with him better - and both of us would get a better night's sleep. So - I gave it to him - he loved it - and he slept all night (with me) from the get-go. I only gave it to him at night - and let him eat all he wanted --which really was very much because he was so little.....but he sure liked it. Carol Jean |
I give my Mimi cottage cheese one to two times a day b/c the breeder gave me strict instructions on diet. She has a lot of experience showing and breeding her yorkies so her advice holds a lot of weight. Mimi loves it. Sometimes she only eats the c/c and leaves the doggy food. I am no expert but I would think that (like an infant) you could introduce some a little bit at a time and she how it goes. |
