Kennel cough? I bought a 2 month old yorkie yesterday. I have already fallin in love with her! This morning she was making a cough sound and she sounded a little congested..Could this be kennel cough? or a cold? I am calling a vet today. She seems to be doing really well, she even slept all night with no crying!! I could not believe it:) The man I purchased her through told me if she developed kennel cough that he could treat her with robitussin and a breathing treatment? That sounded wierd to me (im just taking her to the vet instead). Has anyone heard of this before? Thanks in advance, I am looking foward to posting regularly in this forum! Keesha |
Welcome:) Congrats on your new baby:D I'm glad you're going to the vet,it's best not to mess around with OTC meds with these tiny ones. Especially if you aren't sure what it is. Good luck with her, I hope she feels better soon:) |
Hi! Congratulations on your new puppy! Your thread caught my attention because when I brought home my puppy in August at 11 weeks she was coughing and sounded very congested. Every single time she woke up in the morning or from a nap she would cough, I felt so bad for her. I We went through three different antibiotics at the vet (she was being treated for kennel cough) and nothing worked. I even had x-rays taken to make sure it wasn't collapsed trachea! Finally my vet wanted to try one more antibiotic(zithromax) and it worked. She was on it for ten days and the cough disappeared. However, after she finished the antibiotic her cough came back but not half as bad as before! She coughs occasionally when she wakes up but after researching online for weeks and weeks about kennel cough because I was so worried, I realized that it is actually quite common for yorkies to cough occasionally. So Bella is so much better now and her cough does not concern me anymore. Definitely let your vet know about everything and see what they say about it. Good luck and keep us posted! |
Cali had it when I got her, same thing when she woke up she would cough. She gave it to my older pom and it took 3 months and 3 rounds of antibiotics for them to get rid of it completely. I would take her to the vet and just keep an eye on her congestion to make sure it doesn't get worse. Congratulations and the vet should be able to get her in good shape. |
