Hobbs is licking Hootie's spay incision
 
Is this alright? I can't get him to stop! She got spayed on Thursday and she is supposed to get her staples out on Friday. Is it bad that Hobbs keep licking her incision? I can't get him to stop! He stops when I tell him to, but then I turn around and he's doing it again! Do I need to punish him more or is it alright for him to lick her? :confused:

I would stop him to do that . It is not good for the incision .

The vet said it was ok for Hootie to lick it herself. Wouldn't it be the same thing if Hobbs licked it, too??

Awww! He is kissing her booboo. I don't know my crazy indian grandmother use to tell me to let the dog lick my sores because it will heal them faster. Well, I did say she was crazy. I would call the vet. I don't think it will hurt her but I am not an expert.:p

I asked my vet about licking it when I picked her up and she said it was fine for her to lick it, but make sure she wasn't trying to pull her staples out when she licked it. It has been almost a week, and all her staples are still in and it is not infected, but she (and Hobbs both) have been licking it ever since I picked her up. :rolleyes:

That is SOOOOOO funny! Now that I think about it, everytime I have a booboo myself, Hobbs always licks it and it does seem to make it feel better. :rolleyes:

It hasn't gotten infected or anything. I've always heard that dogs' mouths are very clean, cleaner than our mouths.

I'd think that as long as it's still looking okay, like not infected, then it's okay. As long as it's not excessive licking. What a sweet boy, trying to make his sister feel better. He sounds like an absolute little lovey!

Hobbs is SO silly!!!!!!!!!! I tell him to quit and 5 seconds later he's doing it again, and Hootie just lets him. :rolleyes: So, you think it's ok? I mean, she's getting her staples out on Friday and her incision looks fine. And it is REALLY hard trying to keep Hobbs away! :p :p :p

I'm sure it's fine since it's not red or swollen. But just to be on the safe side maybe you should buy a baby onesie and put Hootie in it. That way neither one of them can lick her stitches :p What a love bug Hobbs is :rolleyes: :p

It sounds like she's just a day shy from the incision being a week old, and it sounds like despite Hobbs' lickin' it's still okay. I think it's okay as long as your keeping your eye on it. You can talk to the vet on friday when she get her staples out. Hobbs maybe helping it stay clean and uninfected...JMO

hehehehe That's what I was thinking, too. I think I'll keep an eye on it, like you said, and if it starts looking like it is getting irritated or infected, I'll put a onesie on her or if it starts looking really bad before Friday, I'll take her to the vet early. But so far, so good.
