Fat Free Milk? Is it okay to give our yorkies fat free milk on their dry food once in awhile? I'm having a hard time getting him to eat as much as I think a puppy (four months) should eat and I put a little left over from cereal skim milk on it this morning and he ate! Usually he wants the dry food that our adult yorkie eats and the adult wants the puppy food. BAD on both sides of the coin. |
I know what you mean. I have a 4month old yorkie and a 9week old yorkie. I was really worried at first about them eating enough. The vet told me that if the puppy is playful and running around and gaining weight that he is just fine. If he seems lethargic, then he's probably not eating enough. You can supplement his feeding with Nutra-Stat. I give it to my baby Bella. It is a supplemental high calorie gel. I put it in a syringe (without the needle) and feed a small amount to her once in the morning and once at night. I hope this helps. But remember if he is gaining weight and seems happy, he is probably getting enough food. |
I don't know about putting milk in his puppy food because I think that'll cause him to have very loose stool. My puppy wouldn't eat when he was little and I put a little water in with his dry puppy food to soften it up(kind of like wet food). I heated it in the microwave just enough to be a little warm, and he would eat it that way. You might try that. My puppy was also hypoglycemic, so I also gave him Nutri-stat a couple of times a day to make sure his blood sugar didn't get too low. |
