neutering ?? what do you think the safe weight would be to neuter a puppy ?? when i got brownie and kayko done they were like 7 pds and i didnt worry |
Lady was spayed at 6months old and well under 2lbs and she was fine.It took me a while to find a vet that would do it because of her size though. |
My yorkie Toblerone just got neutered yesterday! He's 5 months old and weighs 2 lbs. 9 oz. on a baby scale, and he's doing just fine today (although I was the one who was a nervous wreck!). The clinic I went to sets a minimum limit at 2 lbs., though, although it probably just depends on the vet. But despite the easy recovery, I'm so thankful the whole ordeal is over! |
Bo weighed 7.3 pounds when he was neutered last week and he was six months old yesterday. lollee, hope litte Toblerone continues to do well! Bo has been driving me insane licking his stitches and the e-coller that vet put on him hasn't worked cause his neck is so long!! He can just push it back and lick away! That's been our biggest issue. |
Hello all...browniesmom622 Hope my imput helps you... I got Sam neutered April 05..when he was barely turning 5 months, weighing at 4lbs and he is fine now... back to his devious self... so I can tell you its safe. |
Stewie is not yet neutered because I am afraid of putting him under. Did you get your new puppy Lenora? Did I miss something?? |
I'm having the same issue! My dog is already 7.5 lbs but is only 4 months old. He still has a lot of baby teeth and his testicals haven't dropped yet. I have an appointment to get him neutered tomorrow, but i'm thinking I don't want to go through with it just yet. The vet was also going to give him his 3rd puppy shots and his first rabies shot. Help! I don't know what to do. |
Hi Charlie Bear. I would not allow your vet to give him his rabies and other shots at the same time. I don't think its safe based on my experiences with shots and Stewie. Also, neutering should be done at one time and everything else should be done at a different time after he has recovered. |
I worried too..........rightfully I lost Worf yesterday. He was 6 months old, healthy, 3.8 pounds. I dropped him off at his vet to have 2 baby teeth pulled and have him neutered. I stopped in to the vet the day before because I was nervous.. checked to make sure they handle lots of little dogs, etc., and was assured that they do. I dropped him at about 0830 in the morning, and by 11AM I received a call from the vet saying he had bad news... Worf's heart failed on the table.. they tried to revive, etc. etc. etc. They used the right anethesthis--ibupertol or some such name. They didn't sedate him much before hand. Which all means not a lot when the end result is that the patient died. This was/is a devastating loss. The surgery had to be done --he had to have the baby teeth pulled and neutering him was the right thing, but I can't stop second guessing myself. All to say --just be aware that your dog CAN end up being the 1 in a zillion statistic. |
slochi, I am so sorry you lost your little Worf. What a devastating loss! I prayed for you after I read your post. |

OH MY GOSH! Your loss just broke my heart. How devestating! After I read your thread.. I remembered every exact moment when I took Sam in.. he too had his baby teeth pulled.. Sam could've died as well... no matter how assuring the docs are, life is never guaranteed! Wow I am so very sad for you. I have to go hug sam now :( :wilted_ro |
Slochi, I am so sorry!!!! Bless his little heart!! Hope you will be feeling better soon! |
