Vets Good for you. Maggie's breeder gave us a shot schedule. She said if the vet insisted on giving combo shots, then to pick Maggie up and walk out the door. She said she would handle the vet by phone. We use two different vets. Our other dogs are heelers. They need the upper hand vet, but Maggie's vet's specialty is toy breeds. That right there is a peace of mind. |
Hmmm...I've never heard of giving the shots at different times. Is it just because it can be so hard on them? I've also never heard of a vet who specializes in toy breeds...this sounds like a vet I would like. How do you find such a vet? Geez...I need to get out more! |
Good Morning Jo Jo, I found the vet through other Yorkie owners. I found out that the toy breeds can't handle a lot of things that other dogs can. Like spaying. Takes just a drop too much of putting them to sleep before surgery, can kill them. A specialty vet knows all about this problem. Same with the shots, the toy breed is just too tiny to handle multi shots. These vets also know how to quickly handle toy breed problems, including their knees, liver shunts, trachea, etc. Peace of mind is priceless. |
Stitches: You absolutely did the right thing! Good for you. To find vet in your area who is good with small breeds call some local breeders and call the vets offices and "interview" them or their staff over the phone. You can ak about their shot schedule reommendations, about what type of anesthesia they use on small dogs, etc. Ask what kinds of dogs the vet owns persoanlly even. It's always great to find one who owns yorkies! |
I even liked the staff better than his other vet , sent him home with a bag of science diet oral care nuggets to help with the back teeth they said when you brush its hard to get the back teeth.and he likes the nuggets . :) |
