Breast Cancer on small breeds? Ok so I took Ninna to get her 5 month shots (including her rabies shot) and a checkup yesterday. She now weighs a healthy 2.1 pounds!! Anyways... the vet advised me that this is a good time to begin thinking about spaying before her first heat cycle because it would greatly reduce her chance of mammary tumors (breast cancer), ovarian cancer and uterine infection. He advised me that these are especially confirmed in smaller, more delicate breeds as yorkies! Can anyone share their thoughts on this with me please. :( |
Bella is 5 months as well and when we took her for her shots, our vet told us the same thing, we are going to get her spayed in a couple weeks. |
it does reduce there chances but i wouldnt say breast cancer is more common in small breeds. my brothers lab had it and my mums gsd. |
Oh please let me know how she does after the operation! How much does Bella weight? I guess there is really no weight "minimum" to have them go under uh? Vet mentioned I should wait a couple of months though.. If it reduces the chances of anything negative this is a must. the only question now is "when"??:( |
My Vet said the same thing. I will have Gracie spayed after puppy school is over in mid-December. She will be about 6 1/2 months. |
When is Gracie's B-day? Ninna was born 6/12/06 |
breast cancer is more common in small breeds, regular checkup is the only way to detect them sooner and treat it |
ive just read a report that says benign mammory cancer is more common in the yorkie. it says the chi is more likely to have the nasty cancer. |
What about boys? What kind of cancer may they get ? |
Bella weighed 3.1 lbs a couple weeks ago when we took her. She is getting spayed on Thursday, I am nervous but I really trust my vet but I will let you know how it goes! |
