Red Open Sores! :( We were grooming Yoda today, and found two red open sores spots on his head! One right between his eyes, and one near the back of the head. It's like his skin there is just missing and we see red (no blood coming out or anything) in those areas. The spots are little, like the size of the tip of a pen (the very tip). He has been scratching the back of his head yesterday and today a bit too (where the other open red area is). Anyone have any ideas what this could be? We usually don't see bug bites like that on him, the one on the back of his head is less red and it looks to be scabbing up. We're going to be taking him into the vet tomorrow, but wanted to know if you guys had any experience like that. Nothing new in his diet, he hasn't been playing with other dogs, and he hasn't eaten anything dangerous off the ground that we know of. We put some vaseline on the areas right now. |
So sorry about Yoda! I hope it turns out to be nothing much. The only time that Toto has had a "boo boo" ... she had been to the groomer and when I started brushing her the next day I found a little place on her head! I couldn't imagine that they could have injured her ... the bow they put in her hair was kinda large and red and the spot was where the bow was next to her skin right at the part. I told myself that she was maybe allergic to the dye in the bow! I watched it and in a few days it was healed up and soon went away. She doesn't go to that groomer anymore!! Let us know how Yoda is doing!! |
Flea or mosquito bite? Hopefully the vet will have a ready answer. Give Yoda a hug from Higgins and me....... |
Thanks Mommies! Yes, he's getting lots of hugs and love all day, but what else is new? :) He seems fine and wasn't really scratching after we put on the Vaseline. I'm sure he'll be fine, but since it looks like an alien bug bite thing, we're going to take him in tomorrow just to be safe, as we always preach around here. :P |
The vet seems to think it's an allergic reaction to something, though we didn't feed him anything new. She told us to use some Neosporin on it and he should be okay. He hasn't been itching it so that's good! :) |
Good news that it was nothing real serious for Yoda. Good to know you can use neosporin on them. Rudy is always getting into something :p Glad Yoda is well............Cindy |
Glad to hear that Yoda is on the mend!!! Poor baby deserves an extra "treat"! ;) |
He got PLENTY of chicken last night and he got in a lickin' of some BBQ sauce on ribs that a guest left unattended on the coffee table (for about a split second!)... :P |
LOL. My pups are NEVER fed people food, but somehow they still always beg and try to steal it if I look away!!!! :p |
Glad to hear Yoda is doing better. I too am glad to know we can use Neosporin on our babies. You never know when that might come in handy. :p Puppy hugs from Cookie... ;) -RubyC |
Yikes, we found FLEAS today! And a whole lot of them! :( He must have gotten it a few days ago when he was playing with an 'outside dog,' one that lives outdoors. Poor little guy got bit all over his face. We took him to the groomers and they shaved off most of the hair on his face. So many flea bites. Poor guy! But at least we found the problem, don't know why we didn't see it a few days ago. After a nice bath and flea-bombing the house, all seems to be well. He's laying here on the couch next to me, we used Advantage and some other flea medicine as well as Neosporin on his bite marks. I've got to take some pictures of Yoda now, he sort of looks like the Taco Bell dog. :) |
Fleas?!! Poor Yoda .... had to get shaved down and winter coming! He will have to learn to "layer" like I did when we were in Chicago! :) I'm relieved that it was fleas instead of some funky skin disease!! I wish there could be a "war on fleas" and they could all be killed and be extinct like the dinosaur!! ;) |
We buy K9 ADVANTIX from our vet and have had NO flea/tick problems. It also is a mosquito deterrent for them, which is important, re Lyme disease and heartworm. We have tried over the counter products and found them wanting. Buy from your vet on this one! It's not cheap, but if you go the less expensive route and get a flea infestation, the bombing and cures bring those expenses right on up there! Fasteddie, I'm surprised the groomer found it necessary to shave Yoda for fleas. That's a bit extreme, in my humble opinion. A good flea bath would have killed all the existing fleas and gotten rid of the eggs. Poor Yoda! You give that little fella a special kiss from me -- and then go to the Halloween store and get him a fake mustache until his grows in! ;) |
Heheh... No, we wanted to get him shaved down. He was already pretty shaved, just his face is more shaved in now. Yes, we use the anti flea stuff, just this time, there were a bit too many fleas! And big ones too since they ate so much of poor Yoda! |
Poor Yoda, he's been through alot. I hope all is well now. How do you know if your puppie had fles? and what do they look like? |
