suture removal after spay Morgan was spayed last thursday and the vet used non-desolvable stitches, which is no problem because i can take them out myself (i've done so on many many dogs and cats before in a hospital). The incision site on morgan looks really well. no redness, no scratches, no infection. The thing is she smells really really bad because she hasn't had a bath since last week. i want to bath her but i know i'm not suppose to do it with her stitches in. so then i thought well why not remove the stiches today? i was gonna do it on sunday, but she's gonna be out with me this weekend and i don't want her to stink everyone out tomorrow. i've tried to mask the smell and i've used waterless shampoo and baby wipes. they're just not helping. so what do you guys think of taking stitches out on the 8th day after surgery? i'm so tempted to do it right now. or have you given your dog a bath while the stitches were still in? what happened if anything? |
hmm maybe you could cover the stitches with something? does it look like its closed:confused: |
oh its totally closed. the incision actually closes 8 hours after being stitched up. |
why don't you call the vet? |
Really? I wish i'd used those stitches my pups took a week to close fully. Maybe you could call and ask your vet? |
spaying When the vets said not the get incisions wet, they mean..do not osak or stand them in water to cover the incision. EMee was spayed on a thursday..I gave her a bath on Sunday..I stood her in the sink and used the sprayer to wet her down..washed her coat and dried her...good luck |
i just gave her a bath. i couldn't take the smell. you'd think working for a vet i'd know better LOL i know your suppose to wait at least 10 days to remove stitches so i didn't remove them yet, even tho the incision looks wonderful. one of the best one's i've ever seen. now irritation what so ever. i'm mildly surprised here LOL morgan is a nut. any hoo, i gave her a five minute bath in the sink. soaked her down, lathered her up, and then rinsed. the incision got wet but its not like i dunked her in a sink full of water. i dried it off and blow dried her so it will be fine. and besides, if it starts looking fishy to me i'll just take the stitches out early. no problem. |

ohh maybe thats what I meant lol cause when I would look at her it looked open but you couldn't see like her inside skin it just wasn't covered fully. They used dissolving stitches on her. :) Glad to hear the bath went well though |
Lilly was spayed about 3 wks ago, but there were no sutures to remove. They were the dissolving kind. I did wait the full week, for bathing - I was concerned about infection (im a nicu nurse). Also, I read on YT to buy some premie sleepers, the kind that snap at the bottom...they worked GREAT! She was unable to lick her incision site, and she looked like a little pink doll! |
