Nervous and Worried!!!!! I posted a couple of days ago worried about Hobbs' potentially excessive water intake. I called the vet who recommended that I measure his water intake for 24 hours and call her with the results. I called her this morning to tell her that Hobbs drinks between 150-175 mL of water in a day and he is 3.6lbs. She told me that this DOES seem excessive and that I need to bring him in so she can run some bloodwork on him. I am SO nervous! What are the possible things that he could have? Is there DEFINATELY something wrong with him or could he just drink a lot of water? Anyone have ANY ideas? I'm so nervous and worried. :( :( :( |
oh gosh... I hope he is ok.... let us know how it goes.. gizmo has his days when he does this... but I always think he's just really thirsty like we get sometimes.... keep us posted... prayers for Hobb's.. |

Thanks so much, Cindy! I'm really hoping that there's nothing wrong wtih him and, like Gizmo, he just really likes water. I guess I'll know here shortly. My appointment is at 11:00am. |
I think I will worry with you if you don't mind and will do lot of praying with you to. Please keep up posted. |
Rebecca, I hope everything is alright, we will say a paryer for the both of you please keep us updated. :ghug: |
Does anyone know what polydipsia (excessive thirst) is a symptom of? Other than the polydipsia and dandruff, he has no other symptoms. He is active, good eater, has not gained or lost any weight, nothing! Does anyone have any ideas of what, if anything, it could possibly be? |
Rebecca you will go more answers I'm sure when everyone has had there coffee. |
OMG Rebecca, not Hobbs!! I'm sure everything will be ok. PLEASE keep us updated. Codie and Tia send Hobbs LOTS of kisses!! |
Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers. Where is Lacy's Mom this morning? She always has all the good medical answers! She probably hasn't gotten her morning coffee, yet, though. hehehe :) |
Awww I hope he is ok....I'll be praying. Please let us all know. |
Diabetes causes excessive thirst. Doesn't sound like he has other symptoms though! Hopefully he's just a health nut and is trying to get his water in! Good luck at the vet! |

Oh dear...I didn't know that 150 -175ml is too much. I hope he'll be fine. Lots of prayers and hugs. |
Maybe he just likes water...I know how worried you are but I would wait till you go to the vet and have the blood work before you panic to much. You know we are all here praying for both of you and will help you no matter what...:) |
Good News! So I just got done taking Hobbs to the vet to have a complete blood panel done (which checks general metabolism, kidney function, electrolytes, liver function, thyroid, and pancreas) and everything was completely NORMAL! :happyboun :happyboun The only thing that was slightly off was his bilirubin (liver enzyme), which was slighly above normal, which the vet said could be attributed to the treat I gave him this morning. She said it was nothing to worry about and if Hobbs were one of her dogs, she would not have more tests run unless more symptoms developed in the future. I am so happy. I am happy to know that no problems were detected and I am happy to have a peace of mind about this whole thing. This is something I've been worrying about for some time now, so to get the results is really a relief. THANK YOU EVERYONE for your thoughts and prayers. They obviously paid off! Oh, and although 150-175mL does seem excessive, she said that normal water intake is 20-40mL per pound of body weight per day. Since Hobbs is 3.6lbs, that would mean that he should be consuming between 72-144mL per day. So, 150 or slightly above that is only slightly above average. Hopefully my little boy just takes after his mommy and just likes water alot! And hopefully no more symptoms will develop. THANK YOU AGAIN! :thumbs up :thumbs up :thumbs up |
