My Yorkie fell over
 

I was standing in the kitchen this evening and my little yorkie started wobbling and just fell over on her side like she passed out. I ran over to her and got her up and gave her some water and now she seems perfectly fine. Any one have Any idea what might have caused this? I am going to try to get her into the vet tomorrow. This happened one time before about two months ago and I thought I was just imagining things because she seemed perfectly fine after it happened. This time I know it is not me because my husband saw it too. Any input would be helpful. Thank you very much.

sounds like hypoglycemia...do you have any nutrical? (follow directions on box) if not use a little karo...just put some on your finger and let her lick it off...I would DEFINATELY call you vet tomorrow..you REALLY don't want you puppy to get hypoglycemic...some puppies need to stay at the vets and get IV fluids...was she playing before this happened? is she eating good...Let me know how she is doing...

hmmm.....I am not sure at all. But I am sure someone else will be able to give you some info. You should definitely get her into the vet tomorrow just to get checked out.

How old is your baby? How much does she weigh?

I am going to take her to the vet first thing tomorrow although she seems fine now. It may be hypoglycemia I have read about that before. She is 8 mths and weighs right around 5lbs. I will keep you informed.

Hmmmmm, seems if it was hypoglyciemia she wouldn't bounce back quite that quicky after you just getting her up and giving her some water.

Do animals faint?

While you are going to the Vet anyway, take a stool sample and have it checked for parasites. Have stools been normal? Might also want to check for bacteria infections in the Intestine.

Everyone should be really careful with these passing out episodes.

Id like to share what happened to my sisters puppy just two weeks ago...
My sister had a barely 1 yr old chiuaua male. She had come home from work about 1am or so and was letting her two dogs out for their pee break. She called in the two dogs and only one of them came near the door. When she went outside to check on the other she said he was wobbling and then just passed out and dropped to the ground. She picked him up and tried to revive him (dont know exactly how) but she got him to wake up. She rushed him to the 24 hour emergency vet where they found him to have some pennies in his stomach along with a rather large piece of what they thought to be metal of some sort. Turns out that he had vomitted the day before and my sister found around 5 pennies in the vomit. The vet also told her that his blood cell count was extremely low and that they didnt think he was going to make it. They recommended surgery asap but couldnt guarantee that he would survive even after it. He would have also needed blood and other things. So they gave her the option to go with the surgery, take him home and let him go on his own, or put him to sleep right there and then. My sister was heartbroken and couldnt stand the thought of having him home sufferring nor going through a surgery and other things and still not make it. As hard as the decision was for her she opted for him to get put to sleep. She held him in her arms while they gave him the injection/iv and he then closed his eyes and was gone.

The diagnosis was that he was dying of lead poisioning and also some other chemical or substance that the pennies and that piece of steel or whatever the foreign object was. When I saw the Xray the foreign object was about the size of a medium egg and oval in shape.

It was so sad how this happened all of a sudden and you wouldnt expect something like this to happen. This dog was a terrific dog and was a favorite with all of our children as he was so kind and loving esp with my baby. We will really miss Milo. May Milo rest in peace and not suffer anymore.

This has me so paranoid with my new puppy that I dont allow her to eat or play with anything off the floor unless its one of her toys. I sweep often as I also have a 1 yr old that spills and drops everything on the floor.

You just never know these days and better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks for the warning about money - I didn't know it could be so dangerous. I would never leave pills lying on the floor, but almost every night when I throw my jeans on the bed the coins end up on the floor and I use to let them lie there for a while before picking them up!

Its very heartbreaking as I couldnt imagine going through that with my puppy who ive only had for about 3wks let alone after a year.

Worst part of it all was that he died two days after my uncle and grandmother died so it was a horrilbe week for our family. To make a long story short one of my uncles died on a friday two wks ago and my grandmother freaked out so bad that she was rushed to the ER and then had a heart attack and died on the same day as our uncle. Then Milo dies two days later. It was horrible.

I just wanted to share so that we can all be aware of the dangers that we really dont know about.
