Worrying Mommy - Any ideas?
 

My little boy Boomer just got over a near death bout of coccidia 2 weeks ago, and just finished the antibiotics this past week. Upon return from the hospital, (2 weeks ago) we noticed patchy skin and this past week started treating him for ringworm per my vet. He has always always been a very active and playful puppy, but the last 4-5 days or so he has been sleeping 2x as often as usual, and is harder to wake. He still gets up to play a little, but definitely is napping a LOT and not eating quite as much (I am supplementing with Nutri-Cal). Being a worrying momma, I just wonder if he is out of sorts because he is still healing, or maybe there is yet ANOTHER underlying problem. I don't want to rush to the vet again unneccessarily (Broke college momma can't afford ER bills). We got him from a very BAD BAD breeder....(yorkshirepups.com, do not do it. Your yorkie will have so many health problems, and the breeder is deceptive)...so I wouldn't be surprised if something else was going on, again. My vet from a free clinic just said to let him rest, but he said that last time and he almost died from coccidia!
Argh! I love this baby boy, and don't want anything to happen to him. Thanks for any suggestions. He is 10 weeks, 2 pounds, and SHAVED!!! :(

Has he been drinking water as well? And going for a daily walk to poop? If it gets worse, perhaps you do need to take him into ER again, it's better to be safe than sorry in these kind of cases...

How is his poop? Solid and regular looking? Coccidia can be very hard to get rid of. My vet checked Higgins poops every week and he was on antibiotics for 3 weeks. I would take your little one to the vet, even though the cost is a lot. Please keep us posted.

I've already said a little prayer for poor Boomer.....

His poops are definitely dark and solid, a great change from what they looked like before. I'm probably going to bring him back to the clinic soon if it keeps up. His ringworm looks worse, and now I have it....whoopee. He has been drinking enough water and I already give Nutri-Cal when he won't eat enough =) I suspect he's probably in a funk because he feels yucky and is very itchy. I will absolutely get him checked again, however, just to be on the safe side.

You could also give him a flea bath too, to get rid of any possible fleas on him. I forget what we use, but there's flea powder or shampoo that is for that purpose.

He's feeling a lot better. No fleas, I would be itching like crazy! He's still sleeping a lot, but he gets up to play and eat all the time now, so I'm not so concerned. He's almost completely back to his old self. Now I just need to get rid of that ringworm and he'll be all set!

Yes he is! I tell him every day how brave and strong he is, and how momma and dad would do anything to make him all better. Here is a picture of him allllll shaved :eek:

Boomer is still a little cutie pie!! The hair will grow back ... I would keep an eye on it ... if he gets those prickly hairs near his eyes it can cause eye infections! That's why I got so mad when the groomer shaved up the middle of Toto's nose!! :eek: That was months ago and it's still not completely grown back!! Same thing with her little "private parts" ... I don't know why they have to whip out those clippers unless it's quicker!! I figure it takes a little more time to just snip it close with scissors ... but, when she is shaved there it causes her to scratch and scratch!
If I were you, I would continue to brush him every day just as though he had a long coat! That way he will still be accustomed to brushing and will look forward to it! ;)

Now THAT is cute! My heart sure goes out to your little guy!
