Help! My baby eats too fast It literally takes him 10 seconds to eat his food. I brought him to the vet last week, he told me to get him a big bown and put some golf balls in it- then he would have to work his way around the balls in order to ear his food Also, he suggested when I feed him I split up his food- give him first portion of meal and then wait 1 or 2 minutes and then give him other portion A few weeks back he threw up a chunk of his food! I just know it was because he literally inhales his food and i guess it couldnt digest fully Anyone ever have this problem before? Any help/advice would be appreciated |
Annika had the exact same problem when she first came home . . . and she would get so bloated like a blowfish it freaked me out. The VET suggested I put the bowl higher where she does not have an easy time getting to it . . .tried but got so frustrated that in the end I decided to hand feed her . . . I am thinking it could be just a period of adjustment as eventually I stopped and she was fine . . . |
Sorry I can't help... Me and a lot of people around here have issues with their yorkies not eating enough! |
Max inhales his food too! He always has. One good thing about it though, is that if he's sick, at least you know pretty much right away that something's wrong! If he isn't interested in his food immediately, there's definitely something not right. He hasnt' vomited any food though....I give him some canned food which is what he inhales...the dry food is much harder and he eats that much much more slowly...only one piece at a time. I should wean him off the canned, but the vet prescribed it, so I give him just 1/6 of a cup morning and evening along with his dry food. I think the golf ball idea is interesting...I may try it with Max! Hope your baby doesn't vomit anymore. |
I've always heard the golfball idea too or a large diameter choke chain. |
Inhaling their food My Monty does this also. Dr Bicks suggested using smooth, round edge river rocks that are too large for him to get in his mouth. It has slowed him down. I also like the idea of splitting up his meal. I have also given Monty some cut up apple (pealed of course, oh he's not spoiled ;) ) and waited about 10 - 15 minutes then feeding him. I noticed he eats slower when I've done this. |
