HELP!!! My Yorkie is peeing redish brown My Yorkie is peeing redish/brownish type of stuff. Can anyone help as to what it is. He doesn't even make it to the door and he is doing this. He is doing it a lot also. |
he might have a urniary tract infection..... with a UTI the urine gets discolored and they have to go frequently and it smells REALLY strong.. . . Is he drinking water???? make sure he stays hydrated and call the vet to see what he suggests |
I hope he gets better, do you keep him in a cage??? Poor baby! :aimeeyork |
I agree with orinskye! could be a UTI.. so definately keep him hydrated and keep us posted! |
I have water available for him at all times and I keep in the cage now because he is peeing everywhere. How long does it take to go away? |
If it's a UTI he may need antibiotics. I'd call the vet ASAP just to be make sure. |
Get To Vet Immediatly I agree with the other posters that the most likely culprit is a UTI. The redishness is probably blood in the urine. However, it could be any number of things. You need to treat this seriously and get your dog to tbe vet for a urine-analysis ASAP. |
vet time I am glad you love your Yorkie..now take him to the vet asap. Theses things do not go away, it could be a bladder stone or simple infection..but it is painful in either case. Best wishes |
Our Yorkies are just like humans...except much smaller. When we get things urinary tract infections, we go see the doctor for antibiotics. Do the same for your Yorkie. |
It does sound like UTI. My Bigg's B is 10wks old and when he was just about 6 1/2 wks old he had UTI and now he has kidney stones. Not saying yours will have stones but get to your vet A.S.A.P. Bigg's B is now on meds called Proin #50 once a day , the stones caused damage to his ureter(the tube that connects the kidney to the bladder. He'll be ok once the muscle tone is back. Please be careful with your baby any show of red go to your vet. Susan of PA MOM of Zeus,Chloe,Venus,Midas,Bigg's B |
If its just a UTI its not a real big deal. Well it is and can get much worse especially if left untreated. Its definately something to take your dog to the vet about just not something to completely freak out about. It could also be something worse though. Our bloodhound had a UTI(she didn't have blood in her urine yet, so we also caught it early). I didn't even know dogs could get UTIs but when I saw her straining to pee and doing this every two seconds I knew what it was. I myself get them fairly regularly and know how PAINFUL it is. I felt so bad for her she would squat down and just hang her head I knew it hurt. I went in right away and checked to see if dogs could get them on the web and sure enough they can and sure enough she had. Once we took her to the vet and got meds I tried to get her to drink as much water as possible. I would put water in her food. Although I would make sure its a UTI before doing this, if somethings blocked I don't know that filling her with water would be a good thing. But like everyone said take the pup to the vet quick if you haven't already. |
Oh one last thing, its not going to go away without meds, so do take him to the vet. |
It's vital that you take your yorkie to the vet. That happened to my yorkie about 6 months ago and I took him in. They did a urinalysis and a urine culture and found that it wasn't a UTI but they found a couple of stones in his urine. The vet played it off as if it was nothing. I wanted to know what was causing this since it wasn't a UTI. The reddish-brown pee stopped for a few months and then it started again. This time, we did the same tests, plus I asked the vet to do a bile acid test because I had read online that yorkies can get liver shunts. I had the bile acid test done on him just because I wanted to rule out any thoughts that I had in my mind about him possibly having a shunt and guess what??? His liver enzyme tests came back at over 300 (normal is below 25). My poor baby has been through so much, I don't want to scare you but just know that it is very important to know that it's a possibility regardless of what the vet says. Get him bile acid tested...it's only like $50 extra. |
Aw. I hope your baby feels better soon. Let us know what happens. |
