Lyme shot? Is the lyme shot for lyme disease necessary? Teddy has all his shots already except lepto and he's getting rabies shot on Saturday, the vet wants to give him the lyme one too but is it really necessary? Do your yorkies have it? |
My Peanut got the lyme shot, he had no reactions. My other dog a sheppard mix got lyme about 4/5 years ago. It was really scary to see her not be able to get up and walk. She was on frontline at the time. She now gets the shot and has not had any problems. |
Hummmmmmmm, I've never even heard of the lyme shot, so I dunno. Sorry. :( |
Lyme disease is a concern if you live in an area with a lot of deer. If you doln't have a lot of deer in the area, then I wouldn't be concerned. Also I wouldn't be concerned this time of year unless you live in the south. Here in the north tics aren't too active this time of year. |
We have deer walking around our complex like they were family pets! I have gotten the shot for Buddy and was afraid not too. A neighbor's dog did come down with Lymes. He has had it these past two years with no reaction. |
It's a realitively low cost thing to get while at the vets.... so I would spend the few extra bucks for safety. If your dog should get Lyme Disease you will be kicking yourself after the fact for not spending the couple extra bucks. Don't be fooled by the AREA thing.... any dog can get it most anyplace! YES chances are higher and lower in some areas but there is always a chance. |
Ok I will get it then. Thank you! I need to read more info on these shots lol I don't know much |
If you do get the Lyme-Lepto shot, ask the vet to give your pup counteragent before to prevent allerfgc reactions, esp lepto is known for that. My pup ended up in overnight ER hooked up to IV because he got a very strong reaction to it.... He never got the second Lyme-Lepto shot (you're supposed to have two if I'm not mistaken). |
Riley would get it every year before camping season. The very first time it is 2 and then after it is 1. He would get very sore from these, but only for that day. |
Sadie got the Lyme shot 1 year only...I spoke to my vet about it and he told me that unless she is outside alot that he didn't think it was necessary. He also doesn't give the Lepto... |
I have 4 dogs, Yorkie, Jack Russell, Ger Shep, and Golden Ret. I always use frontline and didn't think I needed to get the Lyme shot. My Shep and Jack have both tested positive for Lyme, the Shep has never had any symptoms, but my Jack has. It is awful to watch her go through the pain of a Lyme disease attack. I am sorry that I didn't get the shot for them. My Yorkie had the shot as soon as he could and the only reaction he had was his leg got stiff and sore for a day. My golden also recieves the shot, she tests negative. I know Yorkies will sometimes have reactions to shots, so you need to discuss this with your vet beforehand. |
My yorkie Cozy and Golden Lucky both got the Lymes vaccine. Zero problems. In Hunterdon County, where I live, there are more deer than people in some areas, so I need my babies to have the Lymes vaccine. Even with flea/tick drops my golden still gets ticks mostly common dog ticks but every so often he will pick up a deer tick. I used to work for a vet and a dog with Lymes is not always a pretty picture. One of the dogs that came in was a police dog and he had Lymes complications and unfortunately passed away. |

I wouldn't give the lepto shot... Chewy got lme but my vet won't give Lepto... He had a dog die from it and now he won't even keep it in the office. he only gives it if the owner asks for it and they have very good reason for it...Like a hunting dog out in the woods might need it. Plus Lepto is curable... they can treat it as far as my vet is concerned. |
So the lyme he will get but what is the lepto for? We live in NYC, there's no deer etc. here and he doesn't go outside yet plus in the winter he won't be that much because of the cold |
