Doggie Periods?!!???????? Can someone please tell me what I should do? Elbow is 5 months old and started her period today! We have an appointment to get her spayed in 2 weeks, but what should I do until then? How long does this last? How much bleeding should I expect? What other symptoms should I be aware of? I didn't think dogs got their periods until at least 6 months. Please help! I've only had her for 3 weeks! I'm going nutty! I haven't even potty trained her yet! |
Spay Her!!! I have a pit bull boxer mix as well as a yorkie and my pit bull boxer went in to heat before her spay appt but I went ahead and got her spayed I didnt want to deal with the bleeding ewwwwwwww!! It did cost me more but the vet will do and I was told there are no risks!! Goodluck let me know how it goes...! |
It all depends of the dogs . Jade had her first seasons at 5 months old . If your vet is like mine , he'll tell you to wait two months after her " heat ". |
My Yorkie-poo is 6 months now and she still hasnt gotten her period. When should i be expecting it? Are there any symptoms? About how much is the procedure? |
There are no way to predict when the first period will arrive . The books can say at six months but it seems that mother nature don't know how to read . The first signs are swollen of the vulva and blood . |
There are doggie diapers you can get and then you just stick a mini pad inside of it. That will protect your furniture and carpet. I know a place on the net that sells them and they are darling, but I suppose that would take too long...you could try a pet store. As far as the spaying in two weeks, I'm not sure about that. Maddie was spayed at about 6 1/2 months and she hadn't gone into heat yet. My vet told me usually at about 7 months...yours is early. Good luck and hope all goes well for you and Elbow! |
Oh goodness..thanks for your advice Diego! I will have to have the vet give me some advice on that when we go for our checkup this week. Also, i need to check about her teeth. Shes 6 months and i dont think she's lost any! :( |
Thanks for all the great advice. I will definitely call the vet and ask him what we should do. Of course, I would love to have her spayed right away...I find that she's a lot more energetic and she barks a lot more now. I don't want blood on the furniture because we have a little 2 year old...so it would not be in our best interest to have our carpets and our furniture all bloodied up. Also, does anyone know how high Yorkies can jump? We put Elbow in our kitchen when we leave...and we put up a gate....but somehow, she always manages to get out of the kitchen...and we can't figure out how! I think she climbs up the gate! She can barely jump up on our couch.....but here she is, clearing a whole gate? WEIRD! |
