Beginner cook for Yorkies I have a 13 year old Yorkie who is a very picky eater, it is a daily challenge to get him to eat anything. I was having to hand feed him and it would take quite awhile as he would turn his head away or give me the "Elvis" curled lip. At my wits end so I ordered a cook book to cook meals for my Yorkies, I have 3 buts its the 13 year old that gives me problems. SO, I cooked their first meal from a basic recipe in Barkers Grub and OH MY GOSH, all three dogs couldnt eat it up fast enough, I didnt even have to hand feed the 13 year old one. They are loving their new food they get and I have noticed another benefit. Again, problem with the 13 year old, he has been having a chronic eye problem - very red and running eyes. I took him to the vet twice for this problem and it hasnt gone away until I started cooking his meals for him. His eyes are clear and no mucus! I have to admit, I am 100% sure his problems were because of that crappy Ceasers dog food, he got half a tin a day. No more ever! A |
I should cook for mine more often. I do cook them chicken and rice on occasion and scrambled eggs. They still eat the crappy ceasars food though. It is the only moist food I can get them to eat and they eat minimal dry food. |

thats awesome! im a big believer in home cooking and natural living for dogs... im so glad to hear that your dog is doing much better with home made food... it really is the healthiest thing as long as the ingredients are healthy and as unprocessed as possible. im going to have to check that cookbook out as well! thanks! |
(sorry about all my typos in the orginal post). Barkers Grub is the name of the cook book and I found it via a link some one posted here on another topic. When I told my husband what I was going to do and he groaned "oh no, another one of your experiements" and I have to say he is pleasantly surprised, especially since I have not been needing to hand feed. I am going to look for some other cook books too and I have to admit there was other helpful information in Barkers Grub other than recipes. I have to admit I am a complete idiot when it comes to supplements, I guess I will learn about that as I go. Which is the most important, which to start with???? |

Picky Eater Thanks for the info on the cookbook. Will certainly look into it. I too have a very picky eater. We've been feeding him chicken, rice, vegetables, eggs, etc since he was a puppy because we could not get him to eat any of the "normal" dog foods-none, and trust me we tried all of them. But I think he might be starting to get bored with this diet so maybe this cookbook will give me some new recipes to spark his interest once again. Thanks!! |
