Question???? I just got Cosmo yesterday and he was acting fine yesterday running around and sleeping. Now today all he wants to do is sleep and when we put him on the floor he just sits there. He has thrown up twice. What do i do?? I am scared, he is 8 weeks old, did I get him to early? |
Congrats on your little Cosmo and sorry you are having worries. Look at his gums and see if they are a healthy pink color...if they are light or grayish, he probably has low blood sugar...hypoglycemia. Do you have nutrical to give him? If not, you could try a little sugar water. If he isn't doing better, I would say get him to a vet asap. It could also be that he is just missing his littermates and a bit depressed, but if he is thowing up, it seems like it would be more than that. Good luck and keep us posted! Welcome little Cosmo! |
I do have nutri cal I gave him some of it this morning. Then he threw up 30 min to an hour later. His gums are pink. So maybe he is stressed. Like Aimee said in the caht room. His heart is eating kinda fast though. Thanks for replying What should I do. Give him some more nutri cal? |
He also has loose stools |
Gosh...I don't really know what to tell you, but if he is throwing up and also has loose stools, he could become dehydrated pretty fast. There are a lot of people in here a lot more knowledgeable than me, so I hope they can give you some advice soon. I think he needs to be seen by a vet! Best wishes...I'll be checking back to see if you are getting some answers! |
I would give him some more Nutrical. Take him to the vet tomorrow. Also, about 1/2 tsp. of Kaopectate will help the loose stools. |
I have an appt. at 9 tomoorow morning and another vet called and said give him pepto bismal. But he ate and now he is sleeping. So hopefully he is getting better. I put a blanket on him to just in case he was cold. Thanks for all your help and suggestions, he has me worried. I will keep you posted. |
I'm glad you have an appointment and I'll be watching for your posting after you've taken him. Keeping him warm is a good idea! Best wishes! |
Staci, I recommend you to take your puppy to the vet right away. My mom got a yorkie puppy a couple of months ago, and a few days later she started having all the symptons you mention Cosmos has: tiredness, vomiting, diahrea. The puppy had parvovirus and unfortunately they coudn't save her. She got her from an irresponsible breeder that didn't tell her she didn't had her parvovirus shot yet. Please keep us posted how Cosmos is doing. |
An 8 week old puppy can get ill VERY fast. They are so tiny so things can take a turn for the worst in a matter of hours so its always best to take them to the er if possible, especially at that age.I got Lady at 7 weeks old and Jess at 8 weeks old and I rushed them to the vet even if they looked at me funny..its always best to be safe than sorry. When they are so small they do tend to get quite stressed the first couple of days away from their mommys..Jess had loose stools too the first day and our vet said it was the simple fact that she was nervous etc, after 24 hours at home she was totally fine.Out of experience my only advice is NOT to wait when something doesnt seem right, especially with a pup that age.If its possible to take him/her to the vet straight away, then that is always the best option. As I said,Lady was 7 weeks old when we got her and when she was still a baby she ate a beetle on one of her walks..this happened at about 8pm and she threw up about 10 minutes afterwards so we were going to take her to the vets in the morning. But by 2am she was being VIOLENTLY sick and waiting wasnt an option...I dont know what would have happened if we would have left it until morning. She was already dehidrated when we got there and only six hours had passed since she ate the beetle! She was fine after a few days, but after that I swore I would never leave for tommorow what I could do today;) Please keep us posted..I hope your baby feels better very soon:thumbup: |
I wouldn't take any chances either. These little ones can fade very quickly. Go to the vet asap. |
First off, I have to say that 8 weeks is way too early to get such a small breed dog like the yorkie. I don't really think that pup should have been separated from its mother quite so soon either. My puppy was 12-13 weeks old when I got him and he played at first a little and then I started noticing the same things you noticed. When I set him down on the floor he would just sit there and be lethargic. He ended up being hypoglycemic and he had coccidia. Coccidia are internal parasites. They were taking any nutrients that my yorkie pup was eating and causing him to be severely sick and hypoglycemic. He started losing his appetite and we almost lost him to this. His blood sugar levels were very low. It would be very good to take him to the vet. |
He is better now. He had coccidia. He was playing and jumping around later that day before I took him to the vet. He is back to normal and he is chewing on everyting and biting everyone. lol. |
