2 Lumps on puppy! Hey all, My husband and I went out of town this weekend and my mom kept my dogs. She called me and told me that she was rubbing Dixie's belly and noticed a "lump" about the size of the pad of your thumb. She said that it looked like it was under the skin, however, there was some blood around that area. When I picked the dogs up today, I noticed another lump (a little smaller and no blood) on her side (more on her back, than her belly). The one on her belly, I wouldn't say it was on her belly, more on her undercarriage around her rib area. It doesn't seem to be tender or anything when I touch it. Trying to figure out what it could be? Any suggestions or guesses? Dixie is 6 months old, up to date on all shots. Do you think it could be worms or something? Thanks! Melanie |
Lump Hi, Just a guess here but they could be insect bites. My advice would be to keep an eye on them for a day or 2 and if they dont go away, call your vet. If there are any other symtoms I would call now. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
I found the same thing on my puppies back. A lump about the size of the pad of a thumb, not tender, but moveable with the skin. I was worried but my friend told me that her dog had a bunch of them and that their vet said it was fat deposits from fatty food, but not of any danger. I'm still going to ask the vet the next time I go though. |
I took Dixie in on Monday to her vet. I was suprised and completely baffled when the Vet told me what it was. They called it cutebrae or something like that. What is is fly larvae under the skin. I freaked out when he told me this!! He made a small nick near the hole. there was a small hole in the middle of the lump. He made a small nick and pulled out a fly larvae! He did the same to the one on her belly. He said it is quite common, especially this time of year. He put her on antibiotic for 10 days and said she should be all right. I am having a difficult time with this. I feel like such a bad mom. I just can't believe it!! My poor baby girl!! I just can't believe it. We don't have a fly problem at all. We hardly see any. Our yard is cleaned up twice a week to get rid of the poo and such. The vet said that there was nothing I could do to prevent it and it really only takes one fly. I guess the fly lays an egg or something, it hatches and the larvae burrows in under the skin, the hole in the lump was the larvae's air hole!! I still am totally grossed out by this!! You might just want to check your pup and if you see a hole anywhere around the lump, get him or her in right away!! The vet said that if I had waited, it could have gotten infected because of the germs that the larvae carries. |
Lump Guinness had a lump or bump type thing on his front paw. It was removed and the vet told me that it is something (had a technical name) that puppies get. Let me say this was very large and I had it biopsied but it everything thank gosh was fine. |
Starr has one too. I was sitting on the couch petting Starr last night and found a little lump right by her shoulder. My Sheltie has had them time and again over the past few years, and the vet told me they were fatty deposits and not to be concerned. Starr doesn't have an ounce of fat on her, and I just had her at the vet 2 weeks ago for her last series of puppy shots. She got a clean bill of health. I guess I better cut back on the treats cuz it's too danged cold for any flies to be messing with her. I feel better about it now. Thanks. |

Hey! Her lump is where Dr. Lyle gave her the last shot. Maybe you're right. Thank you. |
Penny has 2 lumps also...The vet put her on antibiotics as she said some infections show up this way...however they are not going away...she will be going back to the vets soon....but I want something done so I know what they are...they aren't painful....I just hope it is nothing serious..... |
