stinky breath and teething? can bad breath be a sign of teething? over the last week I have noticed Lillie has extreamly bad breath, it almost smells sour. I called my vet about it and they said it could be that she is teething. She is going in next week, but I just wondered if anyone elses yorkie has this bad of breath? it came on all of a suddon, she never had bad breath like this before. |
Ollie had bad breath when she was teething, so I looked in her mouth and saw that she had some old brown baby teeth that hadn't fallen out yet, so I figured it was the old teeth that mad it smell bad. |
Yes, bad Yorkie breathe usually accompanies teething. So I've read from more experienced owners, and that's what we expereinced here, with Ms Abigail. Once she lost her molars, sweet breathe, again! Of course, she does have 2 retained upper canines that will be extracted when she's spayed on the 2nd of Oct. |

Yes, teething can cause bad breath. When Scampers starting teething he had such horrible breath. After he was done teething his breath went back to normal. Destiny is now teething and her breath smells horrible right now. It is the one thing I hate most about teething!! |

I know the feeling, Lillie smells like she swallowed a dead bird lol How long will this last??? |
Hi, There is a product at Petsmart called Denta Clean Mouth Rinse. I use a similar product I bought at the Vet's office. Just a little in their drinking water. It works for my Furbabies .:animal-pa Kim:animal-pa |
I am glad to hear that it is teething that causes the bad breath. Shylah must be teething because she stinks. I can't get her spade until more teeth come in. She still has almost all her baby teeth. I don't see any big teeth yet. |
Do they also salivate alot when teething and how old are they usually? |
Teething lasts from 4 to about 7 months. I used the Life for Teeth spray and it takes care of bad breath completely. |
It's probably not the same but my dogs teeth smell like rotted fish:eek: |

Does anyone have their Yorkies teeth professionally cleaned once a year? We did Mojos last year, but didn't know how often that should be done....since they have to "put them out" to do it......I heard some vets just give a shot to knock them out for a short amount of time or something...might be better then doing the gas....... |
hair in eyes know the problem Can someone please tell me the name of the product you are talking about that is working so well to keep hair out of eyes on your pups- Bubba is a ( red neck yorkie ) God forgive me!!! but he is !!! I groom him everymorning get him all pretty with his hair in a pony tail (his daddy calls it that ) duuuuu - then I spray moisturizer on him tohelp keep his coat moist and shiny - then he takes off and rubs his whole body all over the floor and sofa like he is having a spaz attack or something- and comes up looking like wildthing out of a horror film- I just don't know what to do to keep his hair out of his eyes that would help because there is noway he can see - I keep allday long brushing it out of his eyes - frustrating you can dress him up you just can't take him out anywhere !!! ( little redneck)haaaaaa bas1 help!!!!:thumbs up :lol tears :dribble: :idontknow |
You can get Life for Teeth here - I use the spray and no, I don't brush their teeth (I know, shame on me). I originally got it because I bought a 3 year old that still had her baby teeth and her teeth were covered in tartar. I didn't want to rush into putting her under until I got her settled in and in good health. It definitely removed the tartar. As far as how often you should have their teeth cleaned - The answer would be when they need it - if you see tartar build up this holds bacteria and can damage their heart, liver and kidneys. I have been using Life for Teeth on my other two, but they are just 1 year and 2 years, but so far not one speck of tartar and I don't use it every day like I'm suppose to, more like 2 or 3 times a week. I would use it just for the good breath, but I'm really hoping it will eliminate professional cleanings entirely (as it claims). http://www.tobysnaturalpets.com/petz.htm P.S. isoflurane or sevoflurane gas is always the safest form of anesthesia because very little is metabolized in the liver. |
