Bed Wetting I am a new member. I am the "Mom" of two yorkies. Jordan is 7 1/2 years old and Skeeter is 4 years old. We adopted Skeeter a little over a year ago. :) She wasn't housebroken and was very timid. :( With a lot of love and patience, she is about 95% housebroken and is acting like quite the little diva. :D About 1 and 1/2 months ago, we lost our Jackson, who was Jordan's brother. Did I mention that Skeeter is Jordan's neice? Anyway, since then Skeeter wets the bed. She sleeps with my husband and me and when she is asleep she has her "accidents". Does anyone have any suggestions? |
Hi & welcome to Ytalk :D I have had that problem once (bedwetting) Tilly my older baby was about 6 1/2 yrs (now 10yrs) always slept with me. one night we just climb into bed to just watch Tv ( I watched) and she goes under the blankets and settles in and within a short period of time I felt this warmth around by back, I pulled the covers back and she had wet the bed :eek: this alarmed me with a big red flag! next morning I called the vet and brought her in that same day, They ran numerous test's. and once the results were in he informed me Tilly had cushings disease. and somewhat explained what it was what it does> it causes her to be an excessive water drinker which I had noticed but didn't really take heed! So that was my experience with bed wetting. and I noticed you said he was 4 years old? Im not sure what age this occurs but I was told senior dogs? and Tilly was just 5 1/2 ys |
If she is spayed, she may need hormones to help with this. |
We were told to by premie daipers for Zowie when she was in heat. Maybe they could be helpful in betwetting, too? Just a thought. :rolleyes: |
Thank you guys so much for the help. I am still really slow at navigating this site. When Skeeter first wet the bed, it was on my husband's side, so I told all our friends that it was a sign that she didn't want him in the bed. Then she wet my side. The first three years of her life, she was kept in a room with her mother and grandmother. Jordan is actually her uncle. Skeeter was the lowest in the pecking order and you could feel all of her ribs and spine. :mad: She wasn't housebroken and I cleaned a lot of carpets that first couple of months. Now she is a healthy weight and is doing a whole lot better :) Regarding Tilly, what other symptoms did she have. I spoke with my husband and we both agree that Skeeter drinks a whole lot of water. We, at first, assumed it was because of the situation that she was in prior to us. We have an appointment at a new vet this Saturday. Does Tilly have to be on medicine for the rest of her life? Is she ok? We lost our Jackson in March, so I don't know if I could handle losing another one. Thanks for welcoming me. |
You could try a doggie diaper at night. It might help you relax knowing you wont be waking to a wet spot or awoke by a wet spot. |
I forgot to mention that in September, we brought her to the vet and her urine was tested and she had low specific gravity. That diabetes insipidus might be a factor. The vet gave us a prescription to strengthen her " hoo-hoo" muscles because of her history of not being housebroken at her age. The wetting the bed started when our dog Jackson passed away. We are going to a new vet Saturday. I appreciate all the advice. She is such a sweet little girl and she has come so far. I also notice that if I especially have a change of routine, ie come home later than usual, this will happen. |
