Puppy Chow and Science Diet Well, our little yorkie buddy seemed to have lost interest in these foods (probably because everyone in the family says "don't give him any table scraps", but I must admit, I'm as guilty as the rest of them! and it turns out that everyone sneaks a little to him )... until yesterday. We thought maybe that these dry foods were just too much work on his little teeth (the vet says it's the way to go) and found that he liked things such as carrots, lettuce as well as some of our house plants! Anyway, we decided to pour a little broth from a roast we had for dinner over his food, and he wolfed it down like no tomorrow! I mean the whole bowl, and he was VERY eager for more! For desert, I thought a little banana might be interesting for him, and sure enough, wolf, wolf, wolf! I guess my question is whether a stricktly dry diet is best, or do little yorkies require fibre (and water) from fruits and veggies (why else would he munch on our house plants?), as we humans do? TIA for any advice! :aimeeyork |
Most vets will say a kibble only diet is best though I have my dog on a BARF diet. |

LOL! :D |
BARF - Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods, like what dogs would eat in the wild. I haven't gone to that, but I did switch to an all natural brad of food. IMO, Puppy Chow and Science Diet are not healthful options for your dog. Look at the first ten ingredients. There should be at least two sources of protein, and no corn or by-products listed. |
thanks, sfmadrigal, for clearing that up! we'll do some more reading and perhaps offer our new buddy a better variety of nutrients... :animal-sm :) |
I was feeding my dog Science Diet, which I wasn't crazy about, but the breeder fed him this, so I stuck with it. Comet lost interest in Science Diet and we were'nt feeding him any table scraps at all. He now eats Innova EVO dry food and devours it like dog treats. Turns out that Science Diet really is not the best food for dogs. He adores EVO and it is the best for him. Hope you can find the best alternative, COMETSMOM |

 we'll give Innova EVO dry food a try... :animal-sm |
...that's great cheeko! The food is pricier, but EVO comes in a larger bag than Science Diet puppy food, and you don't need to serve the same amount in one sitting because it's higher in fat and protein than science diet. Comet eats less food now but he is so much more content between feedings! I'm sure your yorkie will love it too! Let me know how he likes it! ;) cometsmom |
