Hayfever and yorkies I noticed that Dixie's eyes have been a bit gummy over the last week. And I've noticed that I've been suffering really badly from hayfever. Do you think she might be having a minor reaction to all the pollen in the air? and if so would you guys do anything to relieve her suffering? Do you think she's suffering? I know I'm pretty miserable without drugs! (Not that I'm complaining about the fact that spring is springing! - There are little lambs in the fields and daffodils everywhere! I just wish my head wouldn't react negatively to it all!) |
Hey, no fair! You're heading into summer and we're going into winter. Our weather sucks right now. Rain, colder every day. In a month and a half, we'll have snow! I'm almost sure Jack gets hayfever. His eyes were runny during the bad pollen season but are fine now. I haven't asked the vet about it but should. |
Awww, I had to check the date on this post, then looked at where you're located...sounds nice, heading into spring! I definitely believe dogs can have allergic reactions to pollen, etc. You could use benedryl to relieve the symptoms. Do a search here, you'll find dosages described several times. Ginger's 12.5 lbs, we give her 1 baby tab up to 3 times a day. Good luck, and enjoy the weather!!!!! |
So lucky going into spring, we are into fall. I love fall, but not winter. Wish we could have spring and fall only. Summers here are too hot and humid and winters are too cold and icy. I'm just not satified am I? LOL :D |

Thanks for all the advice.  I knew you sagacious YTers would be able to advise me! :D :D The thing about living on an island in the middle of the ocean is we don't have really noticable autumn and spring seasons. There's daffodils and lambs (and hayfever) in the spring but that's about it. Also there aren't many deciduous trees in NZ (they're mostly evergreens) so we don't really get the leaves changing in autumn. When I lived in England I loved the spring and autumn tho! In NZ we don't get the extreme cold (there's no snow on the ground in Welly during winter) and we don't get the sweltering heat (thankfully because I'm half Scottish - I'm not designed for the heat!). MInd you with a dirty great big hole in the ozone layer overhead I frequently get burnt to a crisp! Lobster is not a pretty shade on me! |
That is not fair!! It is getting cold here already and you get to start spring!! And you don't get extreme cold or heat, that is enough to make me want to move there!!! Hmm... I think I will have to take a trip over there!! What are the normal temperatures, the coldest season and warmest season temperatures??? Over here, I am already looking for sweaters for the dogs!! My dogs get allergies really bad in spring when the pollen is really bad and the grass is just cut. I have to give them children's benadryl to help them through it. It seems to really work and helps them alot. |
I love living in Wellington, NZ. (Not that I've lived many other places). I mentioned in another post that we don't have: heart worms, snakes, dangerous spiders, coyotes, large birds of prey, nor rabies. After reading on YT about all the terrible things nature can do to yorkies I'm soo pleased I live here in NZ. Here's some info about NZ's climate: http://www.tourism.net.nz/new-zealan...d-climate.html Here's a link to some info about Wellington http://www.wellingtonnz.com/ I'll have to find some children's benedryl for the Evil Wee. |
