Chicken Soup I went into a local store to try to get a bag of chicken soup and the sales clerk told me no, they don't carry chicken soup, but they can give me something better. They said chicken soup has corn, preservatives, and bi-products... What are your thoughts on this? I know we've talked about this product a lot, but I just want to make sure before I go out and purchase it. |

The ingredients: Ingredients: Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, turkey meal, whole grain brown rice, whole grain white rice, oatmeal, potatoes, cracked pearled barley, millet, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), duck, salmon, egg product, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, kelp, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, chicory root extract, carrots, peas, apples, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake. Vitamins and minerals. If you ever want to investigate the ingredients of any dog food, you can go to this site. They carry, I think, every possible dog food and the ingredients are listed below the item. http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/b...sp?dept%5Fid=1 |
Thanks for the help! I had looked into the ingredients before and I know we've talked about this but I was just shocked to hear the sales rep say it. I wonder why? Anyone know what is the best (cheapest) place to buy Chicken Soup? |
Chicken soup doesn't have corn or by-products, but if you can't conveniently find it - look for Nutro Natural Ultra which is also good and easier to find. |

Thanks for the tip though! |
I always get mine at Pets Supplies Plus. I wonder why the sales woman would say all that about Chicken Soup. Either she got it confused with another or since they didn't carry it she said it was bad and wanted you to buy something "better" at their store. |

check out the chicken soup website thats what i did i clicked on my state and it gave me a list of my local retailers and i just called around the list they gave me to ensure they had it petsmart didnt carry it but they were very forth-coming in stating it most definately was a good and a "premium" food before that i had fed nutro... hope this helps! |
We found Chicken Soup at Love a Pet, I believe. Also, Orschelins (sp) is another cheaper source. I was told by a friend who is a show/breeder of collies, it is a great, reasonable priced dog food, she highly recommended this brand. |
The last time I was at my pet store to purchase food, a rep for Eagle was there. I had to go around her to get the bag of Solid Gold Wee Bits I was looking for. She asked me if I had tried her products - I had, but the bites are larger for something considered small kibble and very difficult for Sissy to chew. Plus she just didn't care for it. But, as I was going to pick up a bag of Chicken Soup also, she asked why I was using it. I told her it was considered a good premium food - to which she replied that besides her product, Solid Gold, Innova, Merricks and Natural Balance - all the other "premium" foods have lots of fillers and preservatives that have no nutritional value for the dogs. She did say it was better than others, but still nowhere near the quality of the other brands she mentioned. She said that by mixing it with the Solid Gold, I was reducing the value of her food. So, I didn't buy it. Sissy does actually like the Solid Gold and since she still isn't eating much kibble, I'm going to stick with just this product. |

After going through Hobbs not eating at all and me having to hand feed him to eat anything (by hand feeding, I mean chasing him around the house with a piece of food in my hand, cornering him, and making him eat it), I decided to find him a new food. I got samples of 6 different foods and lined all the foods up in a line in little bowls, kinda like a buffett. In the buffett I had Pro Plan, Royal Canine, Wellness, Chicken Soup, Merricks, and Innova. He sniffed all of them and immediately gobbled up the Chicken Soup! I no longer have to hand feed him anymore and he has no problems eating. I am glad I found it. |
