I have created a MONSTER I have in the past trained Ellis with treats, BAD MISTAKE ! He is food obsessed. I do not free feed my 2, so when it is feeding time he goes zonkers. I have to put my smaller baby up to eat so he will not bark at her the whole time. What is worse is when he gets something to chew on !! Bullysticks, nylabone etc. I can barely get them away from him, he starts acting very nasty, growling and giving me the evil eye !!! Sometimes I am scared to try to get it out of his mouth. He does not chew the bullysticks he actually eats them then throws it up because of that !! I have not given him one in months. I gave him a nylabone that he cannot destroy. Anyway, he will not do anything unless I have a "treat" for him. Any suggestions on how to stop this behavior for food. I may not be able to get back to your response right away, I'm at work. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. |
Nikki - I really don't think that his behavior is related to your using treats to train him. Object guarding is pretty common. Here is an excellent article on how to deal with it: http://www.clickersolutions.com/arti...ctguarding.htm |
