Girly Surgery First of all Lulabelle is 15 wks and cute as ever. She is just so much fun and I love her.:aimeeyork I have only had one girl dog before and that was when I was in High School. She was a rescue and had been spayed before we got her. I have never experienced a dog in heat before and quite honestly I am terrified that something may go wrong due to inexperience. That one day I will come home from the grocery store or somewhere and my baby could be bleeding or something. I am a first time yorkie mommy ( or doggy mommy for that matter) and I have some questions. How old is a dog typically when she has her first heat? How old should she be on average in order to have that type of surgery? (spaying) (I hate to ask this ):( Generally how much does the procedure cost? Are there any doggy insurance policies that cover this sort of procedure? And if so, how can I find our more about them. I would love any feed back on this subject. I just want to be informed on the issue before I ask her vet so that way I can be objective and understand what her vet will be telling me. I want to be the best mommy possible for my baby.:quizzi: |
they are usally 6 months give or take a month when they first come into heat. Prices vary from Vet to Vet, just ask yours how much they charge, and check around to others.. |
Hi I have yet to have one of my girls come into heat for the first time at less than 8 months. Female puppies i have sold I recommend having spayed at between 7 and 8 months of age. I suggest they check for the second teeth to be all erupted and for the baby teeth to have come out. At the time of spaying the Vet can remove retained baby teeth at the same time. Many toy breeds do not drop all their baby teeth especially the canines. For the actual surgery prices will vary depending on where you are located. You can check around a few clinics but be sure you are going to a vet that knows how to sedate toy dogs and that the isofluorine gas is used not halothane which actually has not been used by many vets for along time now. For extra caution, you can also ask about having her on IV during the procedure. It will add a bit to the cost, but can be safer as it is a ready avenue should any drugs be needed and it keeps her hydrated. As for pet insurance, I have no idea what plans if any cover spay/neuters. You would have to check with the companies and there are a few around. Your Vet clinic may be able to give you some of their brochures. |
