I looked on the food ratings today and Chicken Soup used to be 5 stars, but now it is 3! It says the fish meal in it is preserved using Ethoxyquin.They go on to say that this preservitive has been banned or heavily regulated in human food because they believe it can cause cancer. It is still rated as being a 3 star dog food.

Can anyone believe this?! I'm seriously freaking out! Should I change foods?! :confused:

I guess the first thing to do is to consider the source of the information. It is very difficult to gather FACTS about dog food. If the information is true, then I would change in a heartbeat. :D

NOOOOOOOOOO... I just got a sample from them and Kona will actually eat it WITHOUT me having to mix wet food.

I hope we can find out the truth about this... :confused:

ANYONE at ALL have any ideas? I'm worried. :( I really don't want my babies to get cancer! :eek:

Have you checked this site before? What are the foods listed as 5 & 4 stars??

I just bought some today for Gracie. She has not eaten much of it. The pet store said I can return it for a full refund if she does not like it. Please let me know if this proves to be true. In the meantime, I will not give her anymore.

The ones with 4&5 stars are Merricks, Cadide, Innova, ect. Last time I looked at the website, Chicken Soup was 5 stars. Then I looked at it again today and it was 3!!!!!!!! Then I read at the bottom of the review that it was bumped down to 3 because of the cancer-causing ingredient (of course it only has been proven to cause cancer in humans)!!!!!!!

Should I change foods?

This is really absurd to me. Why would Chicken soup put something in it that can cause cancer??!!! Maybe they used it b/c it is found only in miniscule amounts in a bag....that's a shame b/c so many of us buy this product. I think I will switch to Innova, at least it was only 9.00 for my bag.

Well, even if someone DID call them, it is not like they are going to admit that their product causes cancer, right?

I doubt they would admit this is a known cancer causing agent, but they might at least confirm whether this is used in the fish meal.

I will probably not buy it again - but drats cause it is one of the dry foods that Sissy has finally begun eating (albeit in small amounts)!!!

This really sux. I just talked my parents, grandparents, and sister into switching from Pro Plan to Chicken Soup. They are going to think I'm Crazy if I try to make them switch again.

If you decide to swtich, I recommend Innova. I love it and so does zoe and Trooper.

I have the most picky eaters. That is why I am SO disappointed. I tried 6 or 7 different foods before I found one they liked.....Chicken Soup. I REALLY wanted them to eat Innova, but they wouldn't touch it...only sniffed it. Who knows what I'm gonna do! :rolleyes:

aawww....don't worry you'll find the right food. You know what I did? I took 5 bowls and put a little of each food in them every meal for zoe and I end up with the food that he went to the most.

I think I did a buffet of:

Innova, innova evo, california natural, merrick and wellness

I bought merrick and wellness before but I really like the results of Innova puppy so I stuck with it. Maybe you shuld try something like that.

Oh, I did the buffet, too. In the buffet, I had Chicken Soup, Nutro, Royal Canine, Merrick, Innova, and Wellness. They chose the Chicken Soup...wouldn't even touch any of the others. They sell Merrick at the same feed store where I buy my Chicken Soup, so I might just buy that. I think they'll eat it if they don't have a choice. Now I gotta get the rest of my family to change again........:rolleyes: They are going to think I'm crazy!

I really am so disappointed bc my picky eaters just like it SO much.:(

If Chicken Soup is made by the Diamond Dog food folks that is a huge warning in itself. Remember in December when a whole bunch of dogs died from eating the Diamond food? Here is a link to the cnn story:

I also know that Diamond did not respond very quickly to the problem. My farm supply store sold (past tense) Diamond food. When the problem arose, and dogs started dying what Diamond offered was to pick up the tainted food and replace it with other Diamond Products. My Feed Dealer requested a refund which was refused.
