Puppies eating mature dog food My 4 mos. old is starting to eat dry Nutirence dog kibble intended for 1 year olds and up. She just started ignoring her puppy kibbles. Is it okay for her to continue eating mature dog food at her young age? |
My Vet said they should eat puppy food untill they are 12 months. I think there are more nutrients in puppy food. |
i would try to put the adult food where they can't get it and stick with the puppy food |

My sister's yorkie would NEVER eat her puppy food...she would only eat our older dog's adult dog food. Although it is *ideal* to feed them puppy food until 12 months of age, it certainly will not hurt her for her to eat adult dog food. My sister's yorkie is 4 years old now and she turned out perfectly fine!:D |
Shylah was doing this and I asked the vet. As long as it's a good dog food. Like Nutro, or Royal Canin it's okay. But she also said to supplement her with yogurt or cottage cheese for the calcium. I also will feed Shylah Puppy Ceasers at lunch time. She is 4 months too. Hope this helps |
:Puppy2: Keep her away from the other dogs' food, and maybe feed them separately in different rooms? Remember that puppy food has more fat & nutrients than adult food, so it's necessary for her to still have her puppy food. For now, make sure she's not permitted to have anymore adult food until she is 12 months! |
