Fleas! How? I just found fleas on my Remy who is only about 4 1/2 months old now. Its so sad and gross. He started to scratch off what i looked up to be flea dirt and i put the Advantage on him last night. then i saw fleas lying around where he slept or scratched (alive), does that mean its working when they jump off him? will they start to attack me after the Advantage repels on him? But my main question is, how did he get fleas? He's never stepped foot outside and only stays indoors. My vet told me that he'd only get fleas when being outside or by other dogs, that's why i lagged on putting on the sample of Advantage they gave me. He's also never been around any other dog, only at the Vet's office. Could he have gotten fleas from there? What should i do first? Should i get him groomed? Take him to the vet? Clean my room? i've already done my sheets (he sleeps on my bed) and vaccumed the carpet. Should i do it again? Also, if i just put on the Advantage, should i bathe him or get him groomed now? If i dont, will it get worse? I also have wall to wall carpet in my room that is a dark pink color, where i cannot easily spot fleas investing in it. How can you tell if fleas are investing your room or just your pup? Should i just smoke bomb my room anyway? Help us! |
My vet said that even if they have advantage n a flea can get on them but will die. They dont jump ff of them they just die on them so you dont have too worry about them getting on you. They can be brought in on your clothes oor form another pet that goes outdoors. I dont think you need to do anything but treat you dog with the advantage unless you notice them in your carpet |
Fleas are found in grass, and sandy areas as well, so if you take him for a walk, he can easily pick them up. If you put on a pair of white ankle socks and walk through your place, you will see if you have a need to "bomb" or not as your socks will quickly be dotted with the fleas. Vaccuum and either throw out the bag, or place a flea collar inside your bag or bagless vaccuum to kill any you might pick up. Best of luck here. |
I agree. Unless you notice them in the carpet or getting on you I wouldn't worry. The advantage should kill them. If you are still worried about Remy you could bathe him with flea shampoo. I do this occassionally to Louie just in case. |
As others have said, you could have brought the fleas in unknowingly. If you do find fleas in your carpet and need to "bomb" to get rid of them, make sure you do it at a time where you can leave with your baby for at least 2 hours. When you return, as someone stated, vacuum your home and throw the bag away. But remember, you will need to "bomb" or spray again in 14 days to make sure you've got them all. The first bombing will kill the fleas but not any eggs they've laid - the second bombing will kill those eggs which will have hatched by then. Best of luck to you! We are dealing with a major influx of ticks this year where I live!!! Hubby will be dousing the yard tomorrow (2nd time this summer) to try to kill them - of course that means no outside time for the babies for a bit after he sprays! |

Sounds like i need to calm down. :p Just wait for them to die and make sure everything is clean. I had clothes lying around my room, should i just throw those in the washer too just in case or will they eventually just die out if there are any lingering? Thanks for all the advice, i'll be sure to constantly treat him with the Advantage now that i know he can get them from indoors as well. I've tried to research fleas online but they all tell the same thing, only their life cycle, nothing else. I haven't even groomed him at all yet, besides cut his nails, should i do that soon? He's also been throwing up bile recently, should i be worried about worms or anything? I read it could cause tapeworms because i do see him scratch and lick his paws afterwards. Its such a hassle, now i know to give him any medication right away just in case to prevent everything! |
now that i think about it, the sample they gave me was Frontline. i think i'll go with Advantage though after reading comparisons. |
