Spaying I have read on here that there is a certain anthesic (sp) to ask for and also on the pre labs do they do that the morning of the scheduled spaying? I asked for pre op labs and the only appointment I have is for the day of operation. |
The anesthetic is called Isoflourin. It is a gas that works the best on small breeds. However, I have heard that they have come out with a new gas that is even better on small breeds, but I am not sure what it is. As far as labs before the surgery, they will do that the day of the surgery. It is mainly to check for liver and kidney function. Anesthesia can wreak havoc on a dog with any kind of liver or kidney disease. That is what the lab work checks for. I am sure your little one will be fine! |
Call and ask your vet if the results of the bloodwork will be available before surgery, if not make another appointment before the surgery. Some vets have labs right in the office so it's not a problem. Isoflurane gas and also Sevoflurane gas are used with toy breeds. Make sure they don't give a preanesthesia barbituate injection. If you are unfamiliar with your vet ask directly if he has experience with toy breeds and anesthesia. |
