Bee Stings? Does anyone have any experience with bee stings? I caught Bailey with a honey bee before it had a chance to sting. Thank you ;) Samc and Bailey |
Eatin Bees Well I had a little yorkie who use to commonly go around and eat the bee's off the clover's in the summer, it was quiet distressing. No matter how hard I watched him, he always managed to sneak a bee into his mouth. I guess he had the eating method down because he never got stung and once he got that bee in his mouth I was afraid to stop him and throw him off his guard. It's a weird thing and its hard to really give advice except to try and keep him away from um. |
I did learn that honeybee stingers should be removed if at all possible (carefully) and honeybees are acidic and a solution of baking soda will help counteract the sting. For Wasp stings, they are alkaline in nature and a solution of vinegar can be used to ease the pain and discomfort. Also watch closely for any signs of breathing problems and be prepared to take to a vet if the airway in any way appears to be swelling. Thanks, Samc and Bailey |
Apple, my chihuahua, got stung by a honey bee soon after I got her..her little foot swelled up HUGE and she cried and cried... I gave her a tiny dose of liquid benadryl and she was fine....took a good long nap. I would hesitate to tell anyone a dose to give their puppies.....but I was concerned that her foot swelled THAT MUCH....THAT FAST..... I think Lil Bit got stung on the nose last week....she was sniffing around in some clover and just yelped and cried for a minute....of course in all that hair I never found a stinger and never did see it even swell......she was fine. A sting in the mouth could be a problem...swelling that near their airway could be dangerous! |
