Tail Docked hello everyone, I was wondering, I just got my yorkie, and I noticed her tail is not docked. Is this healthy? Will this affect her in any way? She is 3 months old. Is it too late to dock now? Thanks:) |

I would say yes it is too late. and that Hey she's unique. don't you like it? If anything I would think it gives her more character and gives her more balance. Were you looking at showing her? If not, then there should be no worries. |
I'm sure she's cute! Some people want there yorkies to have their tails. Their tail are usually done before they are 5 days old... so I don't think you can do it anymore. Congrats on the new baby! Ann |
Please Please don't dock her tail now. It would be very painful for her. I'm sure she's precio:aimeeyork us just as she is. |
I just did a bit of research, I will definitely not be docking her tail now, it is too late! Thank you for all of the info :) I will not be showing her, I just thought it may be a health concern, but now I know its not! Thanks:animal-pa |
Her tail can still be docked - one of my dogs and a cat both had to have their tails amputated because of injuries - both were more than 5 years old, and neither had any problems nor did they seem to experience much pain at all. The vet said they wouldn't - and I don't think they did. But - there really is no good reason to dock your puppy's tail - and since it is becoming increasingly popular not to do so - I would consider not doing it. Carol Jean |
My dougal baby has a tail and most people who see Dixie and Dougal together sat that they prefer THE TAIL. I love Dougal's tail. It's like a big banner waving his happiness! If I'd had the choice I'd have kept Dixie's tail. Unless there's a medical reason to dock (like injury) please don't dock your pup's beautiful tail! |
My first yorkie had hers docked (she has since passed) when I found my Mayzie and was told she didn't have a docked tail--well, I wasn't sure what to think. But after seeing her-I absolutely LOVE the tail! It just wags allt he time. I wouldn't have it any other way. She is going on 9 months now. |
tail We have lots of members with Yorkies who have a full tail...they are darling! |
:) Yorkies with full tails are just as lovely, IMO. If you really wanted it docked, you could, but it would be treated like a surgery...she would have to have anesthesia, etc. You [I]could[I] have it done at the same time as a spay/neuter, removal of retained teeth, etc, but I would just leave it at this point. It's not unhealthy and will make her unique.:) |

I used to hate having our new pups tails docked. It seems to me that this is such an unnecessary practice. I hope that some day all breeds will still be recognized under AKC standards without this barbaric behavior. It is such a sweet sight to see a dog with a full tail wagging because they are happy to see you.:dogsm2: |
I think they're adorable with tails, and if I had a choice would probably NOT get the next one docked...we're possible headed that way anyway. (I believe in England they don't dock yorkies tails) |
OK, this is going to sound insanely silly... but what exactly IS a docked tail? I know my dog has one, but I don't know what it is. Does anyone have pictures of their yorkies with tails? I'd be really interested to see one!! |
2 Attachment(s) These are my 2 girls, they both have undocked tails. Here in Holland it became illegal to dock tails in 2000. |
