Nami on a plane? Hello everyone! I have a quick question... my husband and I are stationed here in Okinawa, Japan. We are going home for about a month. I was not expecting to get Nami so soon and we already planned this trip. Is it safe to bring her on such a long trip? Should I leave her home in the care of a kennel? Everybody I know here is going home the same time, so there is nobody to take care of her. She is only 3 months old. I am worried if I leave her, she might loose her houstraining abilities. Any suggestions? Thanks:D |
How long is your flight? Some airlines will allow you to bring your pet on as a carry on. But there is a fee which differs by each airline. I would also ask your vet about the amount of childrens bynedril you would be able to give her. I flew with Tigger around christmas this past year and That's what I gave him. It didn't knock him out but it helped to quite him down. They will not let you take her out during the flight. Airlines are really strict on that(or so I've heard) If you can't find an airline that will allow you to take her on as a carry on I say find a kennel. To put her down with the cargo would be too stressful and the air pressure is constantly changing down there. Best wishes. |

Ok considering the length of the flight and that she wouldn't have anywhere to do her thing. I would leave her with a kennel or someone you really trusted. |
I know its a long flight, but I've done an 8.5hr flight with my yorkie flying to AK from our last disney trip with the kids.....we were too scared to leave her in a kennel so we took her with us and she stayed at the in-laws. She was in a soft sided kennel as a carry on and she was under the seat....till she escaped!!! Then everyone wanted to see her and the flight attendants let us keep her out on our laps. Also I brought a pee-pad but she was older and never used it. Maybe you could call the airlines and ask? Just a thought. |
Also, just a thought.... could you include some layovers in your flight? |
Call the airlines before you make or cancel any plans. I just read an article in Consumer Reports most of the airlines that are state side do not allow pets as carrry on for over seas. What ever you do, I would not let that baby go as cargo/checked baggage. To dangerous!!!. |

I think she will be fine. Just take her to the bathroom with a piddle pad and let her stretch her legs. At that age, they sleep a lot and it's no different if you are crate training her. Just make sure she is able to fly in the cabin with you and also check to see if she will need to be kept in quarintine when she gets to the US or back to Japan. By the way.... LOVE THE NAME!!! Perfect name for an Okinawa Yorkie! Nami in Japanese = Ocean Waves (hence Tsunami) |
We got Coco from my in-laws in Germany and they flew her from Germany to Los Angeles when she was 8 weeks...I think it is about a 14 hr flight. They carried her on and She did okay and they actually just took her into the bathroom and put a potty pad down and she went. Just make sure to walk your baby lots before and after. |
We are flying civilian. Does anybody know anything about the quarantine when I do get to the states? Thank you, we love our little Nami, we were also thinking of naming her Suki=adorable, but when we gave her her first bath, she absolutely loved the water, so Nami fit! |
We stop twice going and three times coming back. If I leave her here, how will she do with me being gone for a month? |
I know that for Coco not to have to go into Quarentine she had to travel before she was 3 months or maybe even two and she had to have documents from the Vet to say she was healthy and had the vaccinations that she needed. I do not know how it is when they are older though...and I am sure it depends on the Country...I guess my response isn't very helpful :rolleyes: |
If you're going on a really long trip maybe it would be better to leave your pup at the kennel. That way you can enjoy your trip without having to do any work and you're reassured that your pup won't get sick from the plane :animal-pa |
