Help me soon!!!! My puppy just ate the tops off of 6 matches, (the sulfer part). Does anyone know if this is poisionious. I called our emergency vet and she does not know. Help soon |
Gosh I have no idea! Maybe you could call your local poison control center?!? It wouldn't hurt! Hopefully someone else knows. |
I called, it cost $50 for them to take the case. So she just told me she didn't think it would be to bad and to keep hdrogen peroxide on hand if I need to make her throw up. She will be with me all day to keep an eye on her. But if anyone else has any advise i'll take it Jeanne |
Call a vet clinic. Don't give him peroxide because this could do more harm. If they are DIAMOND matches then I don't think they are poisonous. I doubt any brands are poisonous because of what this article says. http://inventors.about.com/library/i...rs/blmatch.htm sulpher is used as a food additive too....but large amounts are dangerous. So, I guess it would be best to call a vet to be on the safe side. Don't worry! |
Thank you very much for the web site. How you ever found that is beyound me! I'm not as worried cuz the animal poison also said if there was a reaction it would have happened within a few hours and now its been about 4 hours and she looks just fine. The vet didn't seem that worried either. As always I'm the one that was worried. I did not give her the peroxide. I don't think i'm brave enough to do that. I would have to take her to the vet. Thanks again!!! Jeanne |
Schatzie just chewed on a book of matches not long ago. She climbed into our travel bag and got them. Of course this happened when I wasn't looking. She was fine. It didn't look like she devoured them all, just kinda chewed on them. Sure is pretty scary thinking of all the items these little one's try to find as a chew toy. I am glad your little one is ok too !! |
Sulfers from matches wow.I never knew puupies will do that I dont think itll do anything it will probably come out in the waste but call another clinic or something they might know!!! :) |

Anyone else seen this?? On Friday we discovered a large lump on my puppy's back (she is 4 1/2 months old), right in the middle betweem the front shoulder blades. Last Saturday he got the Rabies shot and we are praying thats what it is.. I also applied "Frontline" on that spot.. I cannot wait until Monday so I can get to the Vet immediately. But, in the meantime, has anyone seen something like this? Its a fairly large mass, (the size of a golf ball) yet she is not in pain (that I can see). Someone please tell me its an infected mosquito bite, or something like that. My worst enemy is my imagination !! |
Gracie got a shot this weekend and my vet told me that she might get a bump in that spot and not to worry unless it lasted for more than 2 months (which i think is a long time) but I wouldn't worry, just call the vet on monday and she what he says |
Don't worry Quote:
Don't worry, the medicine just needs to be absorbed into the body. If it doesn't get rubbed enough right away after the shot they can have a bump for some time. My vet told me this. my husbands minpin had this happen and the bump went away in about a week. |
Hefner had a little lump there after his rabies shot too. It went away after about a month or so. Golf ball size is pretty big though. I would definitely get that checked out. Let us know.... |

Probably the lump is due to the rabies shot. It is good that you are getting her check. Good luck. Please keep us posted. :) |
Thank you all.. Its 8 am Monday and I've already left a message for my Vet. Your posts have definitely, definitely, put my mind to rest. When you see a lump, the first thought is cancer. In the back of my mind I kept thinking it might have something to do with the Rabies shot but, as usual, I over-think everything and came up with the big "CANCER". In either case, I will consult with the Vet and let you know how it turns out. |
