question about heartguard and advantix another question. my vet told me to get heartgard for a 6 months supply which is $35 and advantix which is $56. and of course i said yes so they are ordering it already. but i was looking through the forums and i went to the drfostersmith and it is so much cheaper. i was wondering if the pup needs to be tested first to take these? and if i can buy them from dr.fostersmith and do it myself? geo is 8 weeks& 2lbs.. |
Some vets test first for heartworm before giving the heartworm meds and some dont. Mine didnt. I now buy my flea protection Advantage on Ebay. The heartworm meds on Dr Fosters and Smith you still need a prescription from your vet. I found a place in Australia where you can buy the heartworm meds much cheaper without a prescrition. I will try to find the link and post it. I am going to buy mine from there and save $$ |

so yours didnt test for heartworm first. ok now i feel safer. thanks for the link! =] |
I believe if you start the heartworm medicine before 6 months of age - then you do not need to test first. My girls weren't tested and started on the prevention at 8 weeks of age. J |
