Do their teeth fall out??? Okay, I've been hearing this talk about yorkies shedding teeth? I know they have two sets of teeth, but do their baby teeth fall out like normal people's do?? |
Yes, but sometimes their adult canines will stay in and you have to have them pulled. Usually the dog will swallow their lost teeth. I spoke with my vet about it when Tigger was losing his teeth and he said that's what happens most of the time and that it won't hurt them. |
thanks! one more question...how do we know which ones have fallen out and which ones are still intact? Does the vet determine that? I learn something new everyday... |
They should loose all of the baby teeth just like people. If they have the shark tooth thing going (the double row) your vet will determine which ones need to be pulled. Aren't they funny looking with the shark teeth thing? I love that stage in puppies! :D |
Jazzie lost all hers without any problems but Jewel had deep root so we had some pulled when we had her spayed. She had one crooked canine because her baby teeth wouldn't come out naturally. Just keep an eye on them. You can tell when they have a wiggly tooth cuz they lick and lick at nothing! I kept as many as I could find including the ones the doctor removed. I have them as part of her memorial with her ashes and a lock of her hair. It's comforting to have the teeth. Reminds us of how small she was. |
All of Chachi and Jewels teeth fell out on their own except 4 that had to be pulled |
Okay I have a question - what age should i contact the vet about the double teeth? My boy is 8 months old and has some double teeth still. Thanks! |

She was just spayed yesterday and the vet told me they would have done all in one shot but she was already under for quite some time with the spaying and then she had two dewclaws removed! |

I definatly would NOW |
Yes they do. If you are really lucky, they can all come out at the same time and make the pups mouth so sore that you have to hand feed them canned dog food to get them to eat. That's REALLY fun.;) |
Thanks for all the info everyone!! I LOVEEEE YT! Anyway, I saw Stanley's tooth the other day on the floor and I thought he chipped a tooth or something...he's about at the age where the teeth should start falling out so I guess that was it...:p |
