Greenies. Old news? I have heard rumors about haw bad Greenies were. Google "Greenies bad for dogs" and see what comes up! I was kinda surprised...I mean...Greenies seemed so popular...sold at all pet places. But there indigestable and a few other things. SO DON"T GIVE YOUR DOGS GREENIES! Here is one of the many sites: http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/greenies.asp |
a friend of mine on here, her dog died from greenies! I give Lillie bully stix and she loves them. |
I never use Greenies! What are bullysticks? Can they chew off large pieces and choke or get an instestinal blockage? I don't use rawhide for that reason, but I've noticed lots of people on here use bullysticks. |

Bully Stix. 100% pure beef protein. Only USDA inspected human consumption raw products are used. Made in the USA. 100% guaranteed when they get to the end I throw hers away |
I keep asking at pet stores and at vets offices about Greenies and they all keep selling them and just say that Greenies have gotten a bad rap because dog owners buy the wrong size or don't watch their dog closely enough while they are feeding Greenies. :thumbdown No one I know around here has taken them off the shelves - including vets. I threw mine away. omega |
I was surprized last week when the trainer at my girls puppygarten actually recommended Greenies to the owner of a maltese with chewing issues. The rescue organizations I work with continue to issue warnings with every adoption - but you are right - the product is everywhere. I stay away from rawhide for another reason as well..... gas! I've had a number of large rescue dogs that were comforted and able to ease their anxiety with access to a plentiful supply of appropriate chewing items. Over the years this has included different rawhide "bones" and it wasn't until I was educated about some of the dangers that I made changes in what I supplied the dogs with. At the time we had a dog with awful "gas" issues.... I never connected the absence of rawhide with the improvement in the situation until we were on vacation one year and out of a lack of any other choice I gave her a rawhide bone. I swear - it didn't take more than an hour for the gas problems to return! It was so awful that I swore I'd give a dog my shoe before ever handing over rawhide again! |
I stay away from Greenies as well. I give Kona and "Puppy Doe" Merrick's Flossies. They love those very much! I haven't gotten around to getting a Bully Stick...maybe eventually. |
1 Attachment(s) I don't know why everyone is still selling them either...Mine eat bullysticks all the time, some people don't like them, but never had a problem with them..Here is a pic of Lexie with her 2 not 1 bullystick...Tell me she don't like them..lol:D |

Oh, and I meant that post for the companies, not anyone on this forum... It always says "watch your dog closely" on the product packaging. :) I read my post over, and it seemed like something personal when it's not. Just clarifying the target of my frustration... |
