Trying to switch my puppy's food..but to what? My puppy Napoleon is 5 months old and until now he has been eating Cesars mixed with Eukanuba dry food because thats what the breeder has been feeding him since he was a baby. I am ready to switch food now because I have learned that Cesars is supposedly horrible for him. I was thinking about JUST Royal Canine? no wet food or anything. Is that enough? (just the royal canine) or do i still need to add some wet food. If so, which one. Can anyone recommend other good dry foods that are so supplemented that they dont need the wet food. Responses are apprecciated. Thank you1 -Rita |

Royal Canin has a lot of corn in it - since your switching anyway, do a little more research, Nutro Natural Ultra, Merricks, Chicken Soup - look for one that the main ingredient is meat (not by products) and has no corn it. For a puppy look for something that is about 28% protein. Innova is a premium food, but they have a protein of like 42%!!! (way too high in my opinion), but it doesn't have any grains so that is probably why. I'm feeding Nutro Natural Ultra now, but I fed Eukanuba for years without any health problems or coat problems. If he is doing well on what you have been feeding him and since you are going to have to change to an adult food at a year anyway, it probably wouldn't hurt to do some studying and just change foods when you find an adult formula you like. hi, When i purchased my 2nd yorkie last year the breeder recommended me Life's abundance by HealthyPetNet. I feed my picky picky eaters Chicken Soup (Puppy). There is NO corn, the first 2 ingredients are Chicken and Turkey, and the protein content is 28%, which is right on the money! The kibbles are also very small so it is easy for tiny yorkies to eat. |

if you google corn gluten meal it returns saying this: Definitions of CORN GLUTEN MEAL on the Web: is the dried residue from corn after the removal of the larger part of the starch, bran and germ. No nutritional value.:thumbdown Also a review I read about a dog food with corn gluten meal said this: Corn is a problematic grain that is difficult for dogs to digest and thought to be the cause of a great many allergy and yeast infection problems. We prefer not to see this used in dog food. In it's gluten form, it is also a waste product for which the AAFCO definition is "the dried residue from corn after the removal of the larger part of the starch and germ, and the separation of the bran by the process employed in the wet milling manufacture of corn starch or syrup, or by enzymatic treatment of the endosperm". I'm not so sure I would want this in any dog food? just what I found when I was researching. |

I used to feed Louie RC puppy, but it made his itch, so I switched to Solid Gold Hundchen Flocken Puppy. He seems to be doing well on that. |
