What kind of puppy food do you feed?? I have never had a toy breed before. I used to feed my danes Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul - it was great. Just seeing what others feed their YT's. I want to switch him after he gets settled. Thanks

this seems to be the question of the day, I was just looking at Ingredients of Nutro Natural Choice for puppy and then I looked at Royal Canin for puppy, the RC has corn gluten meal in it and they say corn is bad for them. do a search on Ingredients in different foods, they say you want the protein to be at least 30%
right now I feed Lillie science diet, thats what the breeder had her on, she will eat it but not very good so I'm in a search for a new brand as well.
My Husky eats Nutro and gobbles it down.

Several YTers feed Chicken Soup and it's a great food. I feed Nutro Natural Ultra because it is also a good food and I can get it at Petsmart without any problems. I look for a food that the first ingredient is meat (no byproducts), no corn, I prefer rice as the grain (or oatmeal for sensitive tummies).

Be sure and switch very slowly like over a two week period by adding a little of the new with the old, and increasing the new while watching for any digestive upsets.

I'm guessing the corn gluten meal is not the same as ground corn, cause look at this site.

I think I may have found the one I want to use or at least try.

Like the Iams/Eukanuba company, they have several different lines, you know like good, better, best - Look at the Nutro Natural Ultra line it is much better than the Nutro Max line and doesn't contain any corn.

I looked at the ingred on the ultra line and it has tomato in it, on the bad food list, it says not to feed them tomato, here is why.

These contain atropine which can cause dialated pupils, tremors and irregular heartbeat. The highest concentration of atropine is found in the leaves and stems of tomato plants, next is the unripe (green) tomatoes and then the ripe tomato.

Never noticed the tomato - definitely something to think about - I found this little bit about why it's put in some dog foods.

hmmmmmmmm very interesting! I dont know what to do, I guess ask my vet? when I had Kloey on RC for Yorkies she told me that was a great choice, but Kloey would not eat it unless I mixed it with soft food. I really dont want to have to buy soft food, a dry dog food should be good enough if it's a good quality!

chicken soup is a good food!! I have just switched to Canidae all life stages. Merricks is also good!! Good luck!!!

I feed Exclusive and it is a great food. no corn or corn meal.

I feed my adult dogs Canidae and the puppies get Nutra Ultra Puppy.

I have done alot of research and looking for the right dog food. I have also read alot on the theory of feeding a raw diet to dogs. The food I settled on was INNOVA EVO. I swear by it. My dogs love it and it comes in small bites. It doesnt come specifically in puppy food. I am posting from a website about the food below. The only thing I would worry about with the Evo is the high protein content. I feed my 2 yorkies Chicken Soup and they love it. It would be easy to feed your Dane and yorkie the same food.

I feed Louie Solid Gold Hunchen Flocken Puppy. I used to feed RC, but switched becuase it made him itchy. He seems to really like it and be doing well on it. Just curious, but does anyone else feed Solid Gold?

I'm going to try either Wellness or Nutro Ultra and my pet store has Canidae, so hopefully one of them will suit Lillies taste and needs!

Solid Gold Just A Wee Bit. Main meat source is Bison. Absolutely the BEST food I have ever fed. We've tried Nutro Natural (great for cockers, not so great on yorkies), Chicken Soup, Dick Van Pattens, Innova, California Natural, etc etc etc etc.. and have a definate winner.

Evo is poison for Yorkies, will send them into liver/renal failure due to the extreme high protein content...unfortunately I know this from a friend's experience. Once off the food, all of her dogs are fine again. Scary!
