Giardia??? Hello All, Preston has been on medication (Flagyl) for 4 weeks in the hopes of treating Giardia. Originally, the doctor put him on for two weeks but when we stopped giving it to him the diarrhea came back within two days. Therefore, the doctor said to put him on the Flagyl for another two weeks. Well I stopped the second cycle of Flagyl two days again and guess what??? THE gressy, oily, diarrhea is back again!!! My poor baby! Does anyone have experience with Giardia or any advice? Please help... Thank you all so much! Adryana |
Hope you get some answer's ,has the vet taken asample of the stool? |
Yes, he took a stool sample and that's how we knew it was Giardia. It does not seem to bother him and he eats very well. It's just that his stool is like oil and very messy. It's been four weeks and we can't beat these things!!! I'm so worried! |
Have you tried changing his food, maybe some types of food make it worse. Is he on wet or dry food? |
My guys had Giardia too, but they only took medication for 2 weeks and now their stool is normal. Did the vet send the stool sample to the lab? The vet we went to said that you normally cannot see Giardia in a stool sample at the office, it has to be sent to the lab. We were on vacation when we had to take our guys in for treatment and didn't have time to wait for lab results so they treated them, assuming it was Giardia. Perhaps your baby doesn't have Giardia, since a month of Flagyl should have taken care of it. |

I just remembered that when we fed our boyz with anything with increased fat, their stool would be worse. We put them on a diet of boiled chicken and rice for a week to help. Maybe a change of diet might help |
Giardia can be very hard to get rid of. Make sure you clean up all stools immediately, wash bedding, etc. because it is possible for them to reinfect themselves. |
