Should i change it ? :animal-pa Okay ... Well right now my Gracie is eating the Science Diet Puppy b/c that is what the lady i bought her from fed hers but lately i have noticed her scratching and like chewing or biting on her paws. Is this because she is allergic to the corn in it? If so what food should i switch to? How do i know for sure what it is? Thanxxx !!!:animal-pa |
You may never know for sure what is casing the scratching and biting, but Science Diet is pretty low on the list of good foods and is mostly by-products. There are several very good foods out there. Just in case it is the food causing the scratching and biting, look for one without any corn, wheat or dairy products. Merricks, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Chicken Soup are all very good foods. You will need to go to a pet store (PetsMart, PetCo or PetSuppliesPlus) to find them as they are generally not sold in grocery stores or places like Target, Walmart or Kmart. The good news is they aren't any mor expensive that Science Diet. Generally you should swtich foods over gradually. Start by mixing some of the new food in with the old and gradually add more and more new food until that is all there is. Good luck. |
You may never know what is causing Grace to gnaw at her paws. It could be a food allergy, a contact allergy or even a behavorial issue. There are several high quality brands of dog food that do not contain corn -- Canidae All Stages is one. Innova EVO is another (but this food has a very high protein content). Hope this helps :D |
I am not sure how old your puppy is, but when I got Louie he licked and chewed his feet a lot. I took him to the groomer and had the hair cut from in between his toes and from around the pads of his feet and he doesn't have a problem anymore. The groomer said that the hair being in there irritated his pads. Louie was 5 months old when I got him though, but it is just a suggestion.:) |
Three dog bakery Hi everyone, i am a pretty new yorkie owner and was wondering if you guys know anything about this brand of puppy food. my lil boy is almost 5 months old. i've been feeding him nutro-max until recently. i also tried a little bit of the science diet. even though he was eating both of them alright, i heard that as far as nutrition, it's not as good as the premium dog brands. so i looked around and found this dog bakery called "three dog bakery". there, they sold oven baked dog and puppy food made from 100% human quality food, with no added bad preservatives or sugar. they also made entrees that are wet food also 100% human quality food. it's a lot more money, but we don't mind paying for them. everything is good...my lil boy eats it and loves it (but then again he eats everything we give him). i'm a very protective mommy so i was wondering if anyone heard whether what i'm doing is good for him? it sounds good, but because i never had a dog my entire life, i want to make sure that oven baked and the wet food is good for him. this new brand is from the "three dog bakery" which is at "threedogbakery.com" if anyone knows anything about this brand please let me know, or whether they know a different brand that would be better. anything to make sure he maintains a good healthy life, we are willing to do. also, poopy's baby teeth are starting to fall out. so i was wondering if i should feed him the wet food more often so it won't hurt him. thanks, poopy's mommy |
