Losing hair
 
Silk has within the past week or so started losing a lot of hair. Not looking bad or anything. She has lots of it and it is a long coat. i know yorkies don't normally shed . It comes out in the comb when i comb her and i see little balls of hair on the rugs. Her skin doesn't have any places on it and she is not itching except when she gets a flea on her. I have had a small problem with fleas. they are outside a lot except when it is too hot. i comb them with a detangler comb and flea comb every day. Any thoughts? Could she just be shedding some because her hair is so thick and it is so hot/ i hope that's it but i didn't think yorkies did that. Thanks

Chachi loses hair when he gets a flea on him. He is allergic to fleas but doesnt scratch when he gets them either. That might be your problem.

Oh and I wanted to tell you I just found real cheap flea protection. $18 for a supply of 4 of advantage on ebay. They had frontline too

Have you treatedher for fleas? If she is losing hair it could be mites (not visable) or a bacterial infection on the skin, that will usually cause little puss blisters.

I'd take her to the vet

Yea my Chachi had mites before too and he lost alot of hair. He got them right after the flea incident. They get them when there immune systems are down and they are terribly hard to get rid of. Chachi didnt scratch either. They have to do a skin scrape to check for mites

Thanks for the tip. She hasn't been treated recently since she is pregnant ( I hope). But I called the vet and he said to use Advantage only on her. No frontline while prego but i never use that anyway. it makes Ceeby sick. i have used flea spray everywhere the dogs are this morning and washed all their toys and bedding. I haven't had too much of a problem with the fleas yet. Just a little. I use Dawn to bath them in. But I have combed a few fleas off. i know about the mites because Lucy, the pug, had them and they scrapped her head. But, the yorkies have a brand new floor down since march and Lucy is not allowed in with them. She is alright now anyway. They do play in the yard together. Thanks for your info. You are one of the few that answer my many questions. don't know what I have done except be very outspoken sometimes but I hardly ever get responses. Almost makes me want to go back to lurking. So, i thank you very much.
