Yogurt When my baby girl, Hootie (9 weeks old), got diarrhea last week, the vet recommended that I give her some plain yogurt. Well, Hootie LOVED the yogurt. Hootie is not on dry food yet because her teeth aren't big enough to chew it up. So, after her diarrhea got better I started grinding up hard food and mixing it with the yogurt. I put that down and a bowl of wet food down. Well, Hootie has started preferring the yogurt mixture over the wet food...now she won't even hardly touch the wet food! But she will eat the yogurt/ground up dried food mixture really well throughout the day. So, my question is, how much yogurt is too much?? I definately don't want to give her too much, but I also don't want her to stop eating. Any suggestions?? |
We give Ruby yogurt on our fingers to train with, she doesn't like dog treats very much, but will lick the yogurt from our fingers. Kind of messy but it works, when nothing else would. Throughout the day she probably gets a couple of tablespoons of yogurt and it doesn't seem to hurt her in anyway. She still eats her other food just as much as before and her stools haven't changed consistency or anything, so I think at least this much is okay. |
Magic was on yougurt for a long time for her stomach! Our vet had us giving it to her with her food twice a day, she LOVED it and it really made her eat good. After several months on it, he said to slowly start pulling her back off it, so her body doesn't get too use to it! It took awhile to get her eating normal again, but she eventually started eating again and now does so much better!! |
Oscar gets healthy low fat yogurt too and he LOVES it... I give him the fruit flavors too - banana especially. I dont think you can really give her too much - it's good for her! (although she may get bored of it as these dogs tend to do!) A couple tablespoons throughout the day sounds about right - really depends on how big she is. I say use your judgment on this one - Hootie will let you know! |
Sorry to get off topic - but how did that Hooters shirt turn out??? |
Georgie eats Yogurt twice a day with his dry kibble and some boiled chicken it's great for their digestion system. I put about a 1/4 tsp in his food and mix it up. We also give it to our Boxer Coco and she loves it too:D |

Well, I haven't had a chance to work on it yet. She is still very small, so I kinda want to wait to see how big she'll get before I tackle that project. But I'll DEFINATELY post picks when I get it done! :p Thanks everyone for your responses! I guess I will just know if she is getting too much. I am going to start weaning her off the yogurt when she is big enough to eat hard kibble, which I think will be soon. Thanks again!!! |
We homecook for Punkin and our vet says that she needs calcium and recommended plain, sugar free low fat yogurt or cottage cheese. Punkin loves it and will wait patiently until the dollop lands on top of her food before she tackles her meal. She gets a teaspoon (or a bit more ) twice a day. |
Sissy has begun eating yogurt for breakfast. I buy the DanActive with the healthy bacteria in it (vanilla flavor). She gets about 1 or 1 1/2 tbs. She LOVES it. I'm going to try some plain yogurt and see if she'll eat that also. |
Ziggy gets about a Tbsp of plain or vanilla yogurt about every other day. He also loves cottage cheese...he gets that everyday. I also give him a Tbsp of plain canned pumpkin. It worked like a miracle when he had diarrhea. My vet said the pumpkin is very high in fiber and is great for straightening out any "gut" problems. Ziggy loves it and so I give him a little once a week ...just for insurance. |
Both Annika and Tiger get their share of cottage cheese or yogurt for their daily morning meals . . .they both enjoy the flavor, and I get the plain low fat one in a small container as they about get 1 T (1/2 for Annika) only daily. |
Tila gets yougurt and sometimes cottage cheese with her dry food , she just loves it ..............:animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |
