Help! Fleas! Hi everyone! I found over 20 fleas today on our little doggie (she is 1 year old, 3 lbs)!! Here is what I'm doing so far to prevent the fleas: 1. I'm regularly applying Advantage to prevent fleas; 2. It's been 2 weeks since I began giving her Brewer's yeast and garlic tablet daily; 4. Spray every few days with Buddy Spray natural flea repellent. Fleas are still here!! Any advice? I read some's post that they give their dog CAPSTAR...Any opinion/advice would be appreciated! Thanks |

I would say you got a bad batch of advantage if you are putting it on and your dog is still getting fleas. I use this every month with no flea problems. |

Fleas Advantage can be applied as often as every two weeks. Also advantage does not repel fleas. You want fleas to jump on your animals so as soon as they start to walk on her they will start to die. You may have a bad infestion in your house I would give her another dose if it has been two weeks. Also you really don't need to use any other flea products as long as you are using Advantage. once you get them they are hard to get rid of. mine had them the begining of summer for the first time. we now use frontline plus. what I did was to shampoo then and rinse with vinegar. I swept the floor and sofa(be sure to get all the cracks and crevices). and wash everything. I did this every day. wasn't long before they were all gone. if they are so thick on your yorkie they are all over the house too. I also made a mixture of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and went all over the house with it. then sweep again. |

if you have carpet, you need to have something sprayed or have some professional come out and clean the carpets specfically for fleas. i have had my little giel almost 4 years and i have moved each year. (happily staying here for a long time) anyways the first year was at a house with no carpet, little girl never had a flea, never even used flea control. the apartment.. i couldnt get rid of the fleas, it was horrible, little girl was covered in fleas all the time, i would get a steam cleaner for the carpet, give her frontline, spray the apartment, and bleach everything but nothing worked, i moved to a house that had carpet, i had to keep her on frontline but never had a real problem, this house and the last were all hardwood and i never got fleas, but they do get a lot of baths. GOOD LUCK!! |

I've read on here that shampooing with Dawn dish soap will kill them. I've never needed to try it so not sure if it works. Throw out the Advantage and get Frontline. It's cheaper if you order on line, but I wouldn't wait, I'd go to Petco or to your Vet to get it. As for fleas in your house, you need to wash all bedding and vacuum thuroughly. But keep in mind that fleas need a food source to complete their life cycle, so they will need to jump onto the dog to feed, and if the dog is treated with Frontline they will then die. Fleas can cause an allergic reaction, and end up in a bad skin infection, so ACT IMMEDIATELY |

I had to take 2 of my yorkies to the vet the next day after being groomed for fleas, they got them there because they didn't have them before. He said to wash them good and spray frontline on them one spray per lb after I did that in about two days I didn't see them anymore. Frontline is what I use on all 6 of my yorkies. |

fleas bugged us too :( we once had a bad case of fleas he caught from petsmart grooming. i had to give him a flea bath and use special flea bombs in my house to get rid of them. i washed all the bedding, vacumed everything (even the car), + sprayed my yard. it was a pain in the a$$ , but we haven't seen any since. |

I had also heard of Dawn and used it once when Tootie went past the Frontline treatment. It WORKED! I have always stood by frontline and have never had a problem as long as I dont forget the time line.. LOL d |
