Brewer's yeast and garlic Hi, I've read about using these for flea protection and for a nice coat. I looked for the tabs for dogs in several places today with no luck, ending up buying a bottle of each (Brewer's yeast and garlic) at the health food store. Can someone give me suggestions of how much to use? My Yorkie pup is about 4.5 lbs. All comments/suggestions appreciated! Thanks, Julie:rolleyes: |
Hi!!! I ended up finding some in the dog/cat section of feed/farm/supply stores. Mine sd. one pill daily per 10 lbs. Not sure how that translates to how big your pills are, or whatever! Do the people who use this as a flea deterrent use it INSTEAD OF or ALONG WITH other preventatives?? (to throw my own question in. :p) |
It's my understanding that people use B's yeast and garlic 'in place of' other remedies. The woman at the Health food store said she has always used it for her dogs and has never had any problems with fleas. She suggested using one tablet /capsule of each daily - the garlic capsule is 500 mg. I gave my pup about a half of a B's yeast tab, to break her in slowly. But, didn't give any garlic yet. Julie  |
I have seen it at the pet store near me. BUT, several years ago I bought some at the health food store for my mini-poo who at the time weighed about 18lbs. She became very, very ill about two hours after i gave her the first tab so I threw them out. I would be afraid to give it to my yorkies but we are fighting fleas too. |
PetGuard brewers yeast and garlic powder Just to let you know, if you go online to www.Petguard.com you can locate health stores that sell their products. I dont use chemical approaches to flea prevention, I use the powder product sold by Petguard. You sprinkle about 1/2 tsp on their food daily. So far, so good. And the company is all about natural treatments for animals. Just a thought! |
I have been using this forever with my animals. Lex gets a tablet per day of the Brewers Yeast W/Garlic. He has yet to have a flea or tick on him. My old cat who used to like to go outside...same thing never had a problem. I don't use any other flea and tick preventative. I get a 1000 table bottle from : www.jefferspet.com It's the Four Paws Brewers Yeast With Garlic. I personally get it this way and have never mixed or tried to combine two pills. It's funny because I always used this for their coats and then later found out about it's usefulness as a flea/tick deterrent. I was on another chat and mentioned it only to find out that two other breeders on there use the same for their pets and nothing else. Good luck. Jeffers is a great place to buy thing. I have been buying from them for years now. |
Sooooo, how long do you have to give it before it starts doing its thing? I've been giving it to my dogs probably almost a week, and even in combo with the flea spray I'm using, they still have a couple. *SIGH* |

Still using it. Never had any problems. I don't use any flea collars or meds other than these tablets. Matter of fact I got my friend who lives out on Long Island giving them to her dogs. They used to get fleas all the time. SO far so good. |

Thanks so much I am going to give them a try. Right now I am using a product called flea treat made with brewers yeast and vitamin b. Thing were going so good and last week I started to find some fleas on Peanut, hopefully this will work for him. |
A whole garlic pill a day could end up being very dangerous. Dogs shouldn't eat anything from the onion family at all (including garlic). I know it's very controversial but I would never give that much. It has the potential of causing anemia and asthmatic attacks. |
