Royal Canin Yorkshire Mini Kibble?? Hi everyone...I've read lots of threads on the best foods for yorkies....and was wondering if what I was feeding Lilly was okay....Lilly is 3.1 lbs. and is 1 in a half years old. Ever since I brought her home from the breeder I've been feeding her Royal Canin Mini Yorkshire 29 dry kibble. I know corn is a bad ingredient but I couldn't help but notice it had some corn gluten meal?? in its list of ingredients on the bag?....So I was hoping someone could help me and tell me what is best for a little yorkie. I would love to start her on some treats like cottage cheese, or carrots but I don't want to feed her something bad... Thanks!! ~lizette |
from what I have read and understand, any dirivitive of corn is hard for them to digest and is used as a filler. Corn gluten is included in this. Cottage cheese and carrots should be fine. Just introduce them in small amounts and one at a time, just to make sure you can identify if she doesn't get along well with one! Not to hijack your thread, but is wheat as bad as corn? I've noticed some bags having wheat dirivitives listed, but I've never read anyone talk about wheat! |
I feed my pup Royal canin mini puppy and have a bag of the Yorkie kibble for when she is old enough. She is doing well on it. If your dog is thriving on this, why change? The corn can give some dogs allergies, but if it is not happening, don't worry. My girl has no allergies,is lively and happy. She is 8 months and 3 1/2 lbs. I also give her chicken, mince, cheese , chicken necks and occasionally cottage cheese. The kibble is her main food though. She also likes Nutro Lamb and Rice puppy kibble. |
I read alot of breeders use Royal Canin so I'm guessing it should be fine. I Use BLUE BUFFALO and SWEAR by it. |
I have a bag of Natural Choice the has a big flag on the bag,"Contains No Wheat" so evidently wheat is not good. I feed mine royal canine #33 mini for puppies and they love it. But I have also heard that foods formulated for specific breeds like the Royal Canine Yorkshire Terrier blend, is not good for them. It's hard to know. Actually I give mine a variety, they have three choices all the time, one day they eat one brand the next day it might be another. But Royal Canince does appear to be their favorite. As long as corn is not listed as one of the first ingredients, and if your dog is doing well on it, I would not worry. |
