Itchy skin? My Yorkie has slightly red and itch skin.. I thought it may be fleas but he has been treated with frontline plus and no change.. Has anyone had the same problem and if so what did you do? What can I do to ease his skin?:aimeeyork |

It could be allergies. Yorkies are often allergic to corn and/or wheat in their food. Sometimes it is the shampoo you're using. Mitzi had that too and after changing food and shampoo she's doing just fine. It might help to put a cotton shirt on him to prevent him to scratch and cause inflamation and irritation. Hope your baby is getting better really soon! :aimeeyork Ohhh... and WELCOME TO YT!!!!! |

I highly suggest Using Oatmeal shampoo and rinsing it very well and then follow up with a oatmeal conditioner. Tigger used to have dandruff and then I started using gold Medals Puppy Shampoo with Fresh N' Cleans Oatmeal and Baking Soda conditioner. Fresh N' Clean also makes a Oatmeal and Baking soda Shampoo. Not only do they work well but they also smell Fantastic!!! And I've noticed Tigger smells good even a day or two later. He no longer has Dry skin and he looks great. I, too, agree with the possibilty that it could be Food allergies. or even Atmospheric allergies. I would first start out with changing his batheing routine and if that doesn't work then have him allergy tested. Also.. did he have this skin condition before you put on the flea meds? If not maybe that's what is irritating it. |

As per my vet, I put her on a home cooked food regimen of lamb and potatoe for 10 wks. without any results. Her skin is extremely pink, as well as her ears, which I was told has yeast in them, and am now using Otomax for 10 dys. She is on Vanectil-P since the month of May, and wae are weaning her off it, to 1/4 pill every second day. I also |

Have you seen a vet with your yorkie, and can you tell me what he has advised you, re her skin condition. I am at my wits end, and feel terrible that she is so itchy. Besides the cost to date, without any results. |
Gucci had itchy and flaky skin when she was younger. I switch her food because it had corn and started bathing her with oatmeal shampoo. I also used Missing Link. I don't know what did the trick but she doesn't itch or have flaky skin. Your pup can have food allergies or it can be something else. If the scratching is very bad I will take her to the vet. Good luck. I hope your pup have some relieve soon. |
I know Canidae is a great food for dogs. It's all natural and doesn't have corn in it. They also recently came out with a new formula made espically for dogs who have allergies. The link is http://www.canidae.com/dogs/chicken_and_rice/dry.html. I hope this helps you out some. :) |
My 21/2 yr old Yorkie, her name is Lexee, a darling dog. She has delveloped an allergy, which we do not know as yet to what. As per my vet, had her on a lamb and potatoe diet for 10 wks, and he told me not a food allergy, but will do a skin test after the summer to determine the allergy. She has been on prednisone since May (called Vancetyl-P) and am now weaning her off to 1/4 pill every other day. Also put her on Benadryl and a new food called Natural Balance duck and potatoe. Am so depressed to see her itchy and chewing on her paws, where they become sores on them. Her skin is very pink, and her ears where I was told she has yeast in them. Putting Otomax in them twice a day of 5 drops each time. Need help!! |
