Could rabies shot cause lump???? About a month ago we took the girls for their rabies shot, Chanel was due for her anual shot too, so she had both. This evening while she sat on my lap i was rubbing her back in like a massaging way when i felt a little lump on her left shoulder. Could the shots have caused the lump  OK i'm worried and need to know if anybody else has ever felt a lump on their baby after the shots??!! |

Thanks girls for your fast replies, i really got a fright when i felt it. I will keep an eye on it, if the swelling has not gone down within a few days i will take her to the vet. |
Since it's already been a month, I would assume the swelling would have gone down and there would be no evidence of invasion at that area. I would call your vet ASAP. I mean to be sore and tender around an area of injection for a couple days after is one thing, but a whole month is another thing. But then again this is just what I've learned about humans, lol. I would definitly call they vet to double check. |
My Pancake is almost 6 months and she got a rabbies shot about a month ago. About 2 weeks later we noticed a fairly large lump on her side (I'm not sure if it was in the same place where she had gotten her shot). The lump was about the size of a small grape, it was soft and was able to move around a bit and it didn't bother Pancake when we touched it. We took her to the vet the next day and they said that it was from the shot and they see it a lot. Oddly enough, about 2 days later it shrunk to pea size. I'm not sure if the lump was there for a couple weeks and we just didn't notice it, or if it was more of a delayed reaction to the shot. I do know that the lump is still there and it is a little smaller than a pea. The vet says it should completely go away with time. I hope this makes you feel better, I was very worried for Pancake before taking her to the vet. |
Hi!! Lilly also had a lump when she had her rabies shot. It was tender to the touch, so we just gave her plenty of TLC and it went away in about a week. Good luck! ~lizette |
I had a chi mix once. Gave her a shot and the lump lasted about 4 1/2 - 5 weeks. Vet said that some lumps stay longer than others. Sure enough, it went away a few days after the vet visit. BUT, keep an eye on it. Make sure it isn't inflamed or has fever in it. |
Magic got a lump on her neck last time she got her rabies shot!! We took her back into the vet to have it check and he said sometimes these little guys just react to the shot and the area swells causing the lump. He said they usually take 2-3 weeks to show up and about that same time to go away!! |
Leo developed a lump after his first rabies shot- it was a pretty good sized lump. It didn't appear to bother him at all- it worried me a lot so I took him back to the vet to have it examined. The vet said it does happen sometimes, to just keep an eye on it, if it got bigger or seemed to bother him, to bring him back in. It did eventually go away, but it was months. The next time he got his shot- no lump. |

Your discription is exactly what Chanel's lump feels like. I called my vet and he told me that it's most probably a reaction to the rabies shot and not to worry, it will go away within a few weeks and to keep an eye on it. It does not bother her at all, but i will watch her closely.;) Thanks all for your replies, you all helped me a LOT! :) :) |
Yes the same thing happened to My little Coco-bee when i still had her. Someone here told me just to rub it a few times a day. Then in eventually went down. |

Thank you, i will try that  :) |
Most of my yorkies get the "lump" .... some of them have a permanent circle you can see when they get their hair cut short. I now have them on the three year rabies shot.... ask your vet about it.... I found out about the 3 year shot thru a friend who goes to another vet... I asked my vet about it... he has to order it for me.... and it seems like I am the only one who gets it for their dogs at my vets office.... I guess it was something new to them... It costs the same as the yearly rabies shot. The less shots our furbabies have to get the better!!!!:) |

Thanks for the tip, i will speak to my vet about the three year shot  I wonder why vet's don't advice that themselves  |
