Advantage Alternative? I use Advantix on Emmy. It seems to work OK...this month by the day I needed to reapply it I found a FLEA on my bed and quickly stuck her in the tub. But the point I am trying to get at is when I apply the liquid to the back of her neck it gets everywhere! I split the hair to the skin so it doesn't go in her hair, but all it seems to do is get alllllllllllllllllllllllll over her hair. I know you need to use the whole tube for it to be effective, but is there anything else on the market that isn't so messy!? -Ashley & Emmy:aimeeyork |
I have used advantage or frontline on my dogs before. This is how they work: They kill fleas and their eggs within 7 days, BUT if your dog goes outside and a new flea jumps on her-it takes another 7 days. So, if there is flea exposure, i.e. going outside where fleas from squirrels and other dogs live, then you will always have a flea. So, I give my dog capstar monthly, it is a pill that instantly kills all fleas, and then I just bath her in prescription strength flea shampoo once or twice a week. This seems to be working. I was always so frustrated with frontline and advantage! Oh, and when you apply advantage, it absorbs into the bloodstream, it doesn't matter that it leaks down her neck, they only have you put it on the neck so that your dog can't lick it off. I hope this helps! |
I use Sentinel, a little pill that is both heartworm and flea prevention. Doesn't kill adult fleas, just eggs - but Sissy hasn't had any problems so far. |
We are now using a combination of Sentinel and K-9 Advantix. The Sentinel protects against flea larvae, roundworm, hookworm, whipworm. Not adult fleas. K-9 Advantix adds the adult flea, tick, and mosquito protection. |
